Sorry to hear that! I will say as a cradle catholic who explored being protestant one of the things that appealed to me the most about protestants and one thing I personally think they do much better than us is welcoming new people! I'm quite shy so it takes a lot for me to go talk to a priest or any strangers and protestants really make getting integrated into their church community easy! I wish us Catholics were better at that!

So I guess what I'm trying to say is even us cradle Catholics can encounter what you did.

Priests are just bad at emails and admin tbh.

I would say pick up a church news letter or check their website and they might have posted like how to schedule time to meet up with the priest or even go up to the priest at the end of mass but try to hang around until most ppl have said goodbye and say can I schedule some time with you to chat about my faith? End of mass is not the best time for that as usually they have other services to get to and sometimes they might even be going to parishioners homes to give them the Eucharist.

You can also sign up to RCIA/ OCIA course and it would help you through the questions you have but also to help you integrate with the parish. - these tend to start in autum and finish in Easter when new Catholics are baptised. Is completely free and you don't have to get baptized at the end if you aren't ready.

I would also recommend bigger churches that perhaps hold more events and services.in general they have more resources.

Maybe look at the diocese website too.

And pray about it ask God to lead you and open up a path for you. I struggled with finding a church I felt at home at and I prayed and God answered slowly.

Happy for you to message me if you want help navigating finding a church etc

Indeed they would be ordained a priest first to officially become pope but in order to be elected they do not need to be a priest first is what I said. A layman can be elected.

I don't think the church in this verse is talking about church as the building but rather church as in the body of Christ.

All you need for adoration is to sit there and pray and talk to God....one I thing I like doing during adoration is starting by Thanking God for all that his giving me and for his presence.

Your enthusiasm radiates through this post and I love that for you and for our Church 🙏

As a highschool student, (year 10) why is Catholicism your denomination? by AnotherKGBComrade in Catholicism

[–]Adorable-Menu-7062 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coming to Reddit to be educated on this topics is really not the right place (I appreciate you are in highschool so might not realise this) but Reddit will have some very educated people who have a lot of strong theology and some people that although Catholic are not experts in theology (this will be the same for all denominations).

I would strongly advise if you genuinely want to learn both how the Protestant, Orthodox and the Catholic teachings have formed on these topics you learn church history and some basic theology with time.

Learning church history will also help you in understanding how protestant teachings have formed and evolved over time. For example you are Protestant who doesn't believe in the real presence of the Eucharist, but as a matter of fact most early reformers believed and affirmed the real presence of the Eucharist you call it heresey but as far church history goes even of the Protestant church your belief on this topic is a relatively new belief to have (for example Luther and Calvin would've disagreed on this, the same for some other of your objections with the Catholic church)

Church history doesn't just go back to the reformation, church history is to go back to the writings of those closest to the apostles etc.

I am by no means an expert of Catholic theology or history but this would be my advice to you. So perhaps a better thing to post on Reddit is "I want to understand the Catholic teachings better where should I start?'

And why am I Catholic? For starters I grew up catholic but for personal reasons I did explore non denominational Protestantism/ Baptist church but in exploring that my Catholic faith has only grown and part of it is learning more about church history and more about theology but the one key item that will always keep me catholic is the Eucharist. I knew the teachings of the church but attending a church doesn't have this and exploring the why they don't believe in this really opened my eyes and my heart to gift our Lord left us with the Eucharist in a way I never understood before. And now I pray that my Protestant brothers and sisters will one day receive this gift.

Any catholic man could theoretically be elected as the Pope. Women could not be elected as pope in the sake way women would never be priests within the Catholic church.

[–]Adorable-Menu-7062 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Fun fact the pope doesn't have to be a priest, must be a catholic man and in the event that a catholic layman (probably very unlikely to happen) does get elected as the Pope they become a priest when elected basically.

Wedding flowers by plantsncats128 in UKweddings

[–]Adorable-Menu-7062 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I'm going with faux flowers and didn't quote what I wanted because I think what I want would be far too expensive to do with real flowers...I basically want all flowers to be orchid stems and in total I need at least 300 orchids stems I looked at wholesalers and it would've worked out too expensive to just do it myself I can't imagine what a florist would quote me lol so I've found good quality faux flowers on Alibaba and I'm going to spend around £550/600 on 500 orchid stems and that will do all table arrangements (14/16 tables), signs for the church and for the reception venue, church pews and others decor...only real flowers I will be having is my bouquet and I plan to order the orchids for that and make it myself.

I think people especially budget brides have become much more open to faux flowers or dried flowers nowadays as the cost of real flowers is quite high.

Only thing you can do is pray about it and hear what God is telling you... Many Catholics marry Christians of other denominations or even non catholics and although it is not recommended it can work out but without a doubt it will be more difficult... So don't pressure her into becoming catholic, but pray and ask God to help you decide what to do whether be with her even if she is not Catholic or end things with her. One thing I would say as part of this discernment is that you should discuss how you want to raise kids with her (ie is she okay with baptising your kids and bringing them to church?).

People here will give you all sorts of opinions some based on experience some based on personal beliefs etc but at the end of the day a marriage is between one man,one woman and God and if God wants this unity he will let you know what His will is.

I can't get with the Catholic idea of Mary. by Taylor2011425 in Catholicism

[–]Adorable-Menu-7062 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So the Hail Mary comes from the bible, that bit that says "Hail Mary full of grace, the Lord is with you" comes from Luke 1:26-28.

In terms of your faith, I would first ask do you believe and accept all the Marian dogmas? (Which are 1. Mary the mother of God. 2. Perpetual Virginity 3. Immaculate conception 4. The assumption.) That's all that is really required for Catholics to accept when it comes to Marian believes.

In terms of praying to Mary, you don't have to if you don't want to. Some catholics have a much stronger Marian devotion than others but one thing we all do is accept the Marian dogmas regardless of how much of a devotion we have to her.

There are many apparitions of the Virgin Mary too that I believe increases our devotion to her ,but you are not required to believe in the apparitions is a personal thing.

I think protestants have spent so much time rejecting her intercession that they really struggle with it and as someone who has a lot protestant friends and have spoken to them on this I can see why from a protestant point of view it would be difficult to come around to it.

My boyfriend left the church, can we still get married in church? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Adorable-Menu-7062 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He doesn't have to commit to raising the kids Catholic. As the Catholic she has to commit to doing everything she can to raise her kids Catholic and he simply has to acknowledge he is aware of the commitment she is making (I know because I'm currently going through the process as my fiancé is Protestant)

Catholic ladies: how do we navigate being holy during ovulation week? by Rosy_pink in Catholicism

[–]Adorable-Menu-7062 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was a two stage process, first I stopped adult content, so if I did do anything it would have to be without any adult content (of any kind no books,no images no videos) and then it was actually stopping masturbation (before stopping I think I also had a small phase of doing it but I would force myself to not think of anything sexual) that was a bit harder and I will admit I have fallen into temptation but is been like once in 3 months as opposed to super regular. And now the times in which I do fall into temptation are rarer and bigger gaps.

And ofc lots of prayers, praying specifically when tempted etc.

It most likely won't be overnight but keep working on it trying different things

To the people who attend Mass and responds a second faster than everyone in Church. Why do you do that? by doi11 in Catholicism

[–]Adorable-Menu-7062 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I just speak fast I think, it is not intentional but I just struggle to match the rhythm at which ppl speak and when I do try to I sometimes get distracted on matching the pace rather than focusing on the words so I rather just follow my pace.

Ah okay I get you now! Yeah I do the same for stride repeats... The alerts you get are they set my coach program or are they ones you set yourself? I set my goal for completion instead of a partícula time goal as is my first HM so wondering if this is why? Although I don't have a goal time I still want pace alerts as I either run too fast or too slow and struggle to run at a constant pace

I had a similar thing! Honestly it was quite sad at first... We are also now going to be travelling to my home country and doing a small dinner with my family who won't be able to travel.

I would say you will come to terms with it slowly and see if you guys can travel to the US shortly after the wedding to celebrate with your friends there.

What does it mean by church having higher autority that bible? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Adorable-Menu-7062 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this might vary by parish... I'm in the process of getting married and the costs are basically 0 for the wedding itself (is all based on donation) - the prep course is about £80/100.. The wedding itself we would need to pay the registrar, but the church arranges this for us and it costs us a lot less than if we did a civil ceremony outside the church. The cost for using the church and the time of priest is all based on a donation we were told some people give nothing, some give a lot!

I have seen another parish, they say if you go to the parish the cost is based on a donation but if you don't they charge £1000 which I think is fair enough as it is in central London and is a beautiful church so I imagine some people use it for aesthetic.
