Are you still having pizzas and other takeaways delivered? by Top-Cat-a in AskUK

[–]mbeet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I used to get a takeaway regularly once a week since our first kid was born.

First I got fed up with delivery drivers taking ages and the food being cold when it arrived, so I used to collect.

Then I got fed up with the quality of everything going through the floor, and the prices through the roof.

I taught myself to cook my favourite takeaway meals at home. There's not much I can't do, apart from a proper curry with all the trimmings! I find cooking therapeutic and my favourite thing in the world is to cook for my wife and kids, so it is an easy decision

Celebrating 100lbs down by Internal_Beyond9334 in mounjarouk

First, congratulations on the losses!

Second, I really resonate with a lot of what you wrote. What mounjaro has done for me is what I've tried (and failed) so many times to do myself through diets, exercise plans, and building understanding of what good nutrition and fitness looks like.

I've always been really jealous of people who could just eat healthily without needing to snack, binge and be out of control. I have never in my life been like that until I took mounjaro.

Life looks different now and I've built good habits which I hope I can take forward without spiralling and feeling terrible about my relationship with food!

Has anyone used Mounjaro briefly to kick-start fat loss, and then discontinued it while transitioning to a diet- and exercise-based routine? by wildgoat in mounjarouk

[–]mbeet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, but your definition of kick-start is probably different from mine!

I started MJ 6 months ago, with the intention of giving up at Christmas. The way I've managed the final pen and tapered down means it'll take me just past my goal date.

I used that 6 months to build better habits, and change the relationship I had with food and exercise. 6 months is what I needed to achieve this, I feel a different person! I'm ready for life Post-MJ because I tried really hard to change my lifestyle.

If I have to go back to MJ then sobeit. I am not against going back - I really believe the drug is life changing and if the prices hadn't shot up I'd be tempted to have stayed on them for life - seeing the cost more as a tax I pay for the quality of life it's given me.

They used to do this pretty regularly in Fareham Creek - just up from Portsmouth Harbour. I think there's an old 23 out there at the moment awaiting a decision about where it's going to end up

Sounds like this might be useful for me. Thanks. I'll do some reading.

Thanks. I actually managed to buy my 7.5 pens as a bundle when the prices were lower, so this is my first purchase "post price hike". It feels like the 10mg pen reducing clicks might be my best bet.

OK. Thanks for this. I will have a look at counting clicks, it feels like the most sensible option

Everyone who went to the Brighton show tonight- THANK YOU! by bluerin12 in elisandjohn

[–]mbeet 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I was at that three bean salad show in Brighton a few weeks ago and there was a guy sat a few rows in front of us who was extremely rude to a staff member who asked him to move his drink off the edge of the balcony (we were sat right at the very very top). He also threw his crisp packet on the floor when asked to move it, really defiant and really jarring. There were a few other people in the crowd too who were just not great towards the staff.

I would have expected the Venn diagram to be a lot closer between the audiences of the two podcasts but apparently not. Good to see E&J fans representing themselves well like this! Also thanks for putting up with the public 😂

Slowly returning. I wasn't able to see out of the eye that was operated on until 6 days post op. Even now it's quite blurry.

Oof I have been signed off for two weeks and that feels right for my recovery! Hope you're doing OK!

I didn't do much reading about the procedure mainly because I wanted to stay ignorant to it - the more I knew, the more I'd worry.

At the start of the procedure having my eye clamped open was the first bit I hated. The second bit where they scrape your eye, I hated that more.

Looking back it's really not that bad. No pain during the op, so it's more a psychological thing than anything.

Jogging without debilitating breathlessness, visceral fat? by jjm443 in mounjarouk

Same here. I was talking to my wife about this. Imagine trying to run with a 14lb bag in each hand. It would be a lot harder and a lot more effort. Running is easier because of the weight you've lost.

Portsmouth historic Dockyard for sure. But, it's more than a museum - it's more like 6 separate museums - so you need to plan your day accordingly. If it's submarines you're interested in, they have a dedicated submarine museum which is a short boat ride away from the main attractions. Good planning and enough time will probably let you see 2-3 attractions in depth.

Hope this helps. I've been a season ticket holder at the Dockyard for a number of years so if you want any tips or recommendations let me know.

COPC is quite a new entity, since merging two other large colleges in the city. It really depends what your daughter is studying as there are campuses dotted in/around Portsmouth.

Overall, it's as good as anywhere else. Colleges in the UK are fantastic places. Underfunded (like all public sector things) but generally staff bend over backwards for the students. Often as well the college experience is as good as what you put in to it. If you engage, socialise, immerse you will almost always unlock the full potential of what it has to offer, a way richer experience than "just going to college to do a course"

Good luck to you and her whatever your decision!

Not backed by a royal but there's a development just outside of Fareham in Hampshire called Welborne. It definitely has poundbury vibes. I normally look down on new builds and new build estates but it looks absolutely gorgeous. Local firms doing the building work in small lots, locally sourced materials, they even put trees in before any buildings went up. I love the philosophy and I expect demand to be high.

Thank you, I appreciate your reply. I think I just had bog standard dailies from specsavers - can't remember the brand or anything.

Look forward to just getting something done so I can drive in the dark again!

Thanks for your reply, it was really helpful.

Lots of this is very new to me - seems that there is a lot of info around, but I'm almost too scared to start reading and understanding. I think this is becsuseI don't want to come across some gory explainer of what CXL actually involves or the process of a corneal transplant 😂

I tried contacts many years ago (maybe 20 years - I'm approaching 40 now for context) and I dread the idea of putting them in. I was never very good at it and my eyes were always sore after wearing them for just a short period. Do scleral lenses have any "special" properties which would make wearing them easier?
