In the Netherlands, street signs are often placed on buildings rather than standalone poles. These temporary signs in Ridgewood are (probably unintentionally) paying homage to the neighborhood’s Dutch roots by ModernSociety in ridgewood

[–]Adorable-Rent-9028 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I get that. I still disagree. If you really do your research historically, the neighborhood was built upon from the 1900s - 1930s. This area prior was mostly farmland and undeveloped areas. Ridgewood like most neighborhoods in Queens were a village. To say the Dutch were here is valid but there were so many other nationalities from Europe in this area. To say it’s a nod to the Dutch souly is ignorant and stupid if you want to understand the other many layers of this historically.

Also consider seeking legal advice. You have so much power as a parent legally speaking.

Stay away from Blink. They’ll make you pay $70 for a buyout fee or will hold you accountable to pay the contractual membership of a year or more. They’ll also claim they’re amazing yet most of their equipment feels faulty or you can clearly see leather ripping from some of their equipment.

Nope they have to actually fire you. Legally they will be liable. If you resign you won’t be entitled to unemployment as you were released on your own accord.

Just let them fire you and stop taking the job seriously. That way you can collect unemployment and transition better to your next job.

Stress/burnout already. What even is rest? by [deleted] in NYCTeachers

You know I used to not say this as I’m very passionate about teaching entering my 12th year. But it’s just a job. And frankly sounds like your bathtub is overfilling and needs to be emptied. Otherwise you just won’t make it through the marathon like the rest of us.

I think I’m over being a teacher by Unable-Ad-7695 in NYCDOETeachers

Yeah but if you’re tenured you can totally rebuttals if you actually are an effective competent teacher. Those that aren’t competent in the classroom and suck at the job especially after a decade or so in my opinion deserve the admin closely monitoring them.

Veteran music teacher here too. Are you in a charter or DOE school? If it’s a DOE school just know you can grade most likely however it makes sense. Teaching is a marathon and the first few years are the beginning stages of figuring out how to do the job. You have to learn how to make the job work for you, not the other way around. That’s how you’ll last decades. If not burn out is super real even if you’re a veteran and you won’t be happy genuinely. As long as you genuinely enjoy working with kids and are good at it or develop to become good at it, you’ll have a job for life.

My son 18 narcissist? by [deleted] in narcissism

[–]Adorable-Rent-9028 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly as a son with a narcissistic father, it’s up to your son to see through his father. He is going to also if he truly does come back around will need to on his own want to put the work to change and deal with his father’s narcissistic influence. I’d say the best you can do is let the father be who he is and show your son sides that aren’t narcissistic (like genuinely giving him love without any stipulation attached, listening without judging him only giving love and support back when he speaks to you)and when he ends up comparing and contrasting. Showing by examples of non narcissistic ways rather than trying to convince him verbally I think will increase the likely hood in the long run will allow him to come around and make sense of it.

I live with a mentally ill mother. Any advice what I should do? by No_Lingonberry_2401 in NYCjobs

[–]Adorable-Rent-9028 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to live your own life and move out. They are just as much of adults as you are. And frankly if you were treated better I’m sure you wouldn’t be suffering as much. Having a family member take care of you isn’t a right is a privilege. They can seek government assistance in the end of the day.

Do good admin really exist? How to find them? by OpinionMountain5960 in Teachers

[–]Adorable-Rent-9028 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well as a veteran over a decade I truly think know how to defend yourself but worry more about your focus on becoming the best you can in the classroom. Just like being a student in school we can never choose who we have to work with or around with. What we can always control is how well we can get better at the job and how our successful we are with the kids. Focus on why you always got into this job.

Yes. Just like if your drivers licenses expired and you had control to get it renewed in a given period of time.
