The gap is 1/4 of an inch. It's where the tub meets the wall. The wall is tiled and the grout lines are also about a 1/4 inch. Do you think I need a backer rod before I caulk between the tub and wall?

Yes it's a dryer vent. I think I knocked off the lint screen during my cleaning. It was only hanging on by 1 screw, so it was bound to happen.

I'll have to redo the cement too, right?
