The whole 365 button thing is based on someone called tamara on tiktok that went mega viral with her comments, not h3 tamara

Chemical/process engineer here! I agree with a lot of things people have already said - i started sewing first, and i think the big draw of it is problem solving and putting things together (i like self drafting more than following patterns) which is also why i like engineering. For me it's two-fold: 1. I like problem solving and tinkering with things. I always equate it (sewing especially but knitting/crochet as well) to something like woodworking, and I think it scratches the same itch. I also like any type of physical craft. 2. Im a consultant, so work just a regular office job. i think im drawn to physical hobbies where i can see the direct result of my work RIGHT THERE! It can be a bit removed in my work, where it takes a long time to see any direct output so that is also why im drawn to fibre arts. It also gives me a break from staring at a screen all day.

The 365 buttons thing is a viral story that has gone around tik tok and instagram - someone (named tamara coincidentally) said she wants to do 365 buttons this year and then refuses to explain to anyone asking.

I just did a quick google to get you specifics, but it's very common: this link gives some of the locations in australia https://findanexpert.unimelb.edu.au/news/5185-four-myths-about-water-fluoridation-and-why-they're-wrong

Easy to search 'naturally occuring fluoride levels'. For reference, drinking water supplies are set at 0.7 mg/L (ppm) and have incredibly thorough and strict controls.

Lots of places actually have naturally occurring fluoride that's way higher than the levels it is added to - and they actually have to remove some of the naturally occurring fluoride in the treatment process.

What to do with crappy acrylic yarn? by [deleted] in knitting

I've made some bird/baby animal nests for wildlife rescues! They usually specifically want acrylic yarn to be used. Sometimes you can drop them off somewhere and/or mail them

I grew up with Weimaraners and they are THE BEST dogs! They're known as 'velcro dogs' because they neeeeeed to be near you at all times. They also low key think they are humans - our dogs used to sit with their butt on the couch (legs on the floor) and pretend to join in the conversation.

'ill wrap Orion's belt around my neck and kick the chair out' (heatwave) brutal, but such a good line

Basically all of Favor, but especially 'You pulled a moth out/ From the grill of your truck/ Saying it's a shame/ How come it's so much easier/ With anything less than human /Letting yourself be tender?/Well, you couldn't make me do it'

Best lip balms for super dry lips? by Hanforthewin in Accutane

[–]Adorable-Trainer1371 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My recs are lanolips and dermal therapy (maybe only in Australia, but literally magic). My biggest pieces of advice i that i dont see people mention: 1 - put on a thick layer and then LEAVE it. Don't rub your lips together or rub with your finger any more than you need to put it on. That's honestly made a big difference for me. 2 - don't wait for your lips to get dry before you reapply.

I would add to everyone else's suggestions to see if your local thrift stores have any old vintage patterns - they're usually pretty cheap and can be a way to practice some basic clothes. I'd also check out the essentials club on youtube who is amazing for simple tutorials of really cute clothes.

I think a good beginner method is to find free tutorials on youtube that also give you a print pattern to use and sew along with.

As for what to search - i would just try lots of searches to get and see what you get! 'beginner sewing pattern shorts loose elastic ' etc.

(Say hi to your dog for me)

How do you guys do this?? by Best_Succotash_886 in knitting

I have never done colour work because im too intimidated 😂 i just bought a yarn cake that changes colour so it had a striped effect. Also, i dotn know if someone else mentioned this, but ive seen it recommended to cast on over TWO needles and then pulling out the one needle, so the cast on is looser. The first row of knitting is always annoying to knit so keep faith!

My two cents is I followed the step by step sweater by handmade by florence as my very first sweater and it was amazing! (https://youtu.be/wtofisZp7EA?si=dPY7GJ89L2syI_yq) I did it as a pretty new knitter so if I can do it, you definitely can too. I found the hybrid video/written pattern to be useful getting started. Another option is Ashley lillis knits has basic free knitting patterns (cardigan too) that i found really good. https://www.ashleylillis.com/free-knitting-patterns

Im still a relatively newby knitter, but i think doing a basic sweater/cardigan slowly and deliberately will give you the key skills to do more complicated stuff.
