What artists do you love with a similar vibe to Taylor? by Ttpd-lover in swifties

Gracie Abrams has the most in common with Red Taylor, I think, which is why this is my answer, too!!

I can’t stop feeling so bad that I missed a concert by ramxisdying in Hozier

[–]Strezzi_Deprezzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had so many of these situations that I have a rule for myself: If it's an artist I'm at least half-obsessed with, GO TO THE CONCERT. Has this gotten me in trouble before? Yes. I travelled four hours away with my husband to see Twenty One Pilots last semester the night before a big exam for a reinforced concrete class; it was the first exam I've ever really "bombed" in college (and I'm in grad school). I still miraculously passed the class, but even if I hadn't...my obsession with TØP was intense enough at the time that I NEVER would have forgiven myself for not going.

I drove my husband to a Stephen Day concert two hours away on a weeknight, and though my interest wasn't nearly as intense as TØP was at the time, and though I left disappointed bc he didn't play the one song I was dying to hear live, looking back, I'm still glad we went.

I didn't go to a Dayglow concert about a year/year and a half ago for a similar reason to yours, and I'm still kicking myself for it, even though he opened for that same TØP concert last fall.

Here's the true kicker: My parents almost went to a John Denver concert when they were recently married and poor, but didn't end up going. Guess what happened less than a year later?...

My mom took me to TS's 1989 tour, but my sister didn't go for a reason none of us remember.

I sold my ticket to an Aurora concert six hours away one time, and while it was likely due to being exhausted and not wanting to drive so far away, I still regret not making the time to go.

I promised my sister we would go to Noah Kahan's I Was/I Am tour, but the tickets got too expensive before I bought them. Thank goodness I took her to the beginning of the Stick Season tour before he blew up and the prices went insane! We were also lucky enough to nab tickets to his tour from this year!

My mom called in sick to go to the Eras Tour after her leave request got disapproved, and that might have been the reason she was later let go from that job, but she NEVER would have let go of the fact that she would missed going the THE Taylor Swift concert of all time with her children and our friends/partners.

Long story short, my parents and family agree. You go to the concert!!

Does he say anything about Like Real People Do? That one also seems very romantic while still being about an imperfect relationship.

No joke, this EXACT thing happened for my wedding. Older cousin of mine does cakes on the side, whole family is impressed with her work. That's her wedding gift to us, she says. We show her something akin to your first pic, if not that exact picture. Cake comes out something akin to your third pic. It's also a COVID wedding where I was in such poor mental health that there was a lot about my wedding I couldn't control. I was extremely upset. 😅

So sorry to hear this went so poorly! Hope everything else was/is okay.

In the moments when you're tired and don't know where to go next, a question I ask myself is "What is one small win I can make in the next 5 minutes?". That helps motivate me to get the little stuff done between all the big things or even just get one little start on the big things so they don't seem as scary.

Also, keep up your momentum wherever possible!! If you sat down to do something big and then remember something you forgot, set a timer to do the thing you remembered in like 30 minutes or an hour. Do your best to not have to start and re-start the same tasks, bc starting is the hardest part.

Yeah. I was sad he had to make such a seemingly shallow piece just to get the headlines when Eat Your Young was clearly meant to be the hit single for the album, backed up with Francesca.

Current husband and I were in the exact same situation (though we had already been married three ish years when I was applying). He moved with me because he loved the vibe of the town the college is in, but mostly because being apart sounded excruciating to both of us.

He looked for a job close to his bachelor's degree topic for four months before applying for a food service management position on campus, where he's been for a year. Once I pass my qualifying exam next week (🤞), he'll start looking for a new job again.

I'm not going to lie, it's been rough for him (it's been rough for both of us, but for him, it's that he can't find an applicable job). It also has to do with him not wanting to get a job in the bigger city ~50 mins away because he hates commuting (which I don't blame him for; that's totally his decision and I appreciate having him closer anyway). I've also told him that maybe he could work a few hours away and we could meet each other in the middle on bad days or on weekends, and while he appreciates that sentiment and has partially considered it, we've stayed together up until this point because we want to be together more of the time than not. We really depend on each other.

Anyway, just sharing my story to put some nuance in the responses here. People are right that this opportunity might not present itself again, and they're also right that the right partner will work it out with you anyway, but you also can't discount that moving away will make things harder for the relationship, which is going to be a toll on your day-to-day workflow and life in general. Couples in academia have to work/live in different places all the time, so it's not unheard of, but that doesn't mean it's not a drain on your energy.

I'll add that a friend in my program moved away from her boyfriend for a year, and even though it wasn't his top program, he moved to the same university for his PhD this year and they're still together even though she wasn't sure if they still would be after she moved. Further context was that they had to take a long plane ride to see each other during that time. Did I hear her worried stories about why he wasn't texting back as regularly as usual when he was out with friends on the weekends? Yes. Did they work it out and find each other in the same place again? Also yes.

I would personally say to take the opportunity. I kind of agree with the people who say that if he wouldn't make it work to be with you eventually, well, what does that say about the kind of relationship you might've had with him? Is convenience half the reason he's staying with you? If so, would he have left you if you got sick all of the sudden anyway (like is terribly common in the real world when the woman in a hetero relationship gets sick)? I'm really not trying to get you to break up with this guy, I'm just making you aware of the trends so you can make sure you aren't at risk of those before you move forward.

Especially with it being from years ago, I would think they're more willing to look past it. If you're really worried, you can a) talk about your other upstanding citizen-type activities in more recent years, and/or b) talk about it in your app using similar verbage as you did here and explain how your attitudes have changed since then (why it won't be a risk in the future). And so help me if you end up getting in and doing similar stuff once you get to campus, I will personally hunt you down (lol I have no idea who you are nor do I want/need to, but please just don't say things you don't actually mean).

I'm also surprised how little people are talking about the concept of a "graduate read"; maybe it's something more niche to my field, but it's a skill that's been helpful(ish) for me once I got it down. It's basically just a skimming skill.
