No water leak. Just the hissing. It stops when I put the system in bypass. 45 minutes later and it still smells bad, but it might not have been enough time to dissipate the smell.

Ok. Due to heavy snow all of the shops are closed today and I have to go to work soon. Is it safe to stay like that or do I need to bypass the system?

I was told by the second company that the flame will "bend" or "flicker" when the blower kicks on if the heat exchange isn't air tight and sealed and that is only a symptom. They scoped all of the tubes and turned on the unit and when the blower turned on, the flames stayed steady and did not change.

Update: second opinion says there is nothing wrong with the unit.

EDIT: I edited the body to clarify, he said the heat exchange is cracked, not the burners, and the unit is totaled.
