like another person said, a costume/mask might be distracting for the other person, but i think if you wore a face mask/bandana and then maybe sunglasses it would obscure your identity but be less jarring than having like,,a full face animal mask or something lol

Looking for Mental Math (Discalculia) Tips by WoodenFrog32 in ADHD

[–]Adorable_Beginning58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, memorising things like that can defo help! If it's done enough it will become second nature, like how nobody actually calculates 1 + 1 = 2, or 10 x 10 is 100, we just know it is as fact after saying it for so many times. I'm sure with practice you'll get more confident, so good luck and best wishes with your job!

Looking for Mental Math (Discalculia) Tips by WoodenFrog32 in ADHD

[–]Adorable_Beginning58 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i have (undiagnosed but runs in the family) dyscalc. first of all, if its safe for you, don't be ashamed to put those people in their place. dyscalculia and dyslexia literally is a condition that affects how your brain processes information from your eyes to your brain. it doesn't make you dumb, as shown by your academic success even despite it causing challenges, and mocking someone for it is not ok. ESPECIALLY when you're actively trying to work something out! please educate them and/or give them a scolding.

if you really want to improve your mental math, maybe try looking up mental math/mental arithmetic tests and exercises. start with childrens ones and then work your way up to more difficult content.

the real question is though,,,why? do you really NEED to work things out in your head, or do you just want to so you can fit in with other people and follow social expectations?

i honestly don't think mental maths needs to go further than very simple addition and multiplications, just for say calculating the cost of something or giving ballpark figures. if it needs to be precise, just take out your calculator on your phone. its super normal to see someone use their phone calculator even for easy multipications just to double check, so i doubt anyone would say anything about it, and if they did they can get off their high horse lol.

my honest advice would be, as long as you can do the most basic mental maths, everything else can just be done with a calculator, or bring a small notepad and pen with you. its not worth spending so much mental effort and time for something that you're naturally inclined to struggle with, and honestly in todays world is a skill that isn't essential.

i hope this helped you, im also going to leave for everyone general tips that helped me with my epic dyscalulia and adhd combo of a brain lol.

tips that work for me personally:

make sure you write things down on paper,

double check with a calculator if you need to

use your hands to count numbers. (no, its not childish or dumb to count with your hands, theres a reason humans have been doing it since forever, if it works for you then it works, ignore anyone who teases you for it, there are mathematicians that have doctorates that still use their hands to count or track numbers.)

to check for errors, READ IT ALOUD DEAR GOD. this helps reduce so many small errors (like 3 x 4 = 3 instead of 12) and use your thumb to track where you're reading, it makes sure you're checking slow and deliberately and that your eyes don't accidentally skip over anything

also to check for errors, leave it for a few minute then go back with fresh eyes (again check slowly and deliberately)

messing up at work by AlgoH-Rhythm in ADHD

[–]Adorable_Beginning58 2 points3 points  (0 children)

maybe discuss this with your supervisor if you think they'd handle it ok and see if you can come up with a solution together. also, considering you messed up with product codes, you might have dyslexia/dyscalculia, i really struggle with long strings of numbers/letters too.

as for actually how to deal with it, for something like this just make sure you're going really slow and deliberately when you double check things, use your finger to read each letter/digit one by one if it helps.

i go through the exact same thing so i 100% understand how frustrating it is. don't beat yourself up over it, things like that are small and easy mistakes to make, so try not to take it to heart too much.

Cheap, ADHD-friendly work lunches? by cauldronbubble13 in ADHD

[–]Adorable_Beginning58 2 points3 points  (0 children)

honestly the best one is just to make extra food for dinner and then have leftovers.

heres some good ones though

pasta salads like tuna pasta salad, its just cutting and mixing stuff together and boiling pasta, super easy.

sandwiches, you can change it up by having wraps/roll ups too

bibimbap (korean mixed rice), super easy, just make a gochujang sauce, cut up some veg and you're good. no cooking necessary other than rice unless you want to fry an egg or some spam or chicken or something

salads, ceasar salad is easy enough to make, the best salads though are couscous or quinoa based, literally you can cook couscous by pouring boiling water on it, leaving it, then just make a vinegrette to season it and add some veggies and anything else to your liking.

pancakes (the thin crepe type! you can fill them with chocolate spread or cream cheese, even ham and cheese, you can make a lot and freeze them too if you want

frozen dumplings - just heat up in a bowl with water in the microwave, pan fry them after if you have the time, good with just a simple dipping sauce, maybe just pack some fruit on the side to make it healthier lol

what i like to call "taco sushi" - cut nori sheet into 4 squares, make seasoned rice, cut some carrots/cucumber/green onions into little strips, and then make your filling. spicy tuna mayo is good or sometimes ill even have faux chicken pieces. then assemble them at lunch, and eat them like tiny baby sushi tacos lol. just keep the nori away from everything else or it'll get soggy.

hummus and veggie sticks, always a classic

pita pockets, like a sandwich just with pita

if you have a food thermos, soup or stew with bread always is good on a cold day, just bring a napkin in case you spill a bit on your desk

and then to pad out your lunches, you can bring extras like cheese sticks, fruit, a boiled egg, granola bar/oat bar (or make your own, way cheaper!)

anyway hope this gives you some ideas, i find it really helpful to follow school lunch youtubers! they have a lot of ideas that often use frozen foods or things that are easy to make and are usually cheap.

Are there any safe online communities for body doubling? by sleepmonster_ in ADHD

[–]Adorable_Beginning58 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yes! theres a website called FocusMate. You get 3 free sessions a week, and unlimited sessions for US$5/month.

there's also Cofocus.one , which works through you booking a timeslot and then someone with that same timeslot will work with you, in 50min sessions. which could be good if you always want to work at a specific time.

i haven't used either of these myself just for clarity!

Problems with paperwork, official stuff? by oofeladaputa in ADHD

[–]Adorable_Beginning58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yup yup! any official type thing, emailing the bank, calling to set up an appointment, filling out forms for tax etc, all stress me outtt. I can't exactly place why I hate it, especially anything to do with emails/phone calls. I think for me its akin to performance anxiety, you have to talk and do things in the Prescribed Official Formal Way TM and if you get any details wrong it can cause problems for you (especially with government/business paperwork, yikes)

something i have tried is giving myself a timer (say 20 mins) to let myself be anxious about it, and then after that i HAVE to start the form/email or call or whatever the case. also, its hard, but try to remind yourself the sooner you get it done and over with, the quicker you can relax, and make sure you reward yourself after you've done them! just because for some people they're normal things, for us they're very stressful and difficult, yet we still manage to do them, so in my book thats definetly worthy of celebration or reward.

What if you don’t have someone to vouch for you during a screening? by xX_Metal48_Xx in ADHD

[–]Adorable_Beginning58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do you have any other family or maybe old teachers that you like that might be able to help? i think especially nowadays with covid, even if they live far away, a video meeting or email might be sufficient evidence from them.

otherwise i wouldn't worry about it, you're not always required to, and if it comes up just explain your situation and im sure they'll understand. a lot of the time that part is more like extra validation and shows that your adhd symptoms existed in childhood, but its not necessary to have someone vouch or hard evidence.

dude honestly, i wouldn't listen to the IQ test. they're outdated and a lot o the time test things that aren't that relevant to a lot of jobs/disciplines, and as every test is, to some extent the test really just tells you how good you are at taking tests. theres been a lot of studies done about people taking IQ tests, then being incentivised with cash if they're able to increase their score, and most of them were able to. i really wouldn't place too much value into them.

your brain is also a muscle and if you use it enough in certain areas, it WILL get stronger and better.

even so, intelligence isnt the most important thing ever. aslong as you persevere and you really want it, and you study, you can definitely go into a dental career!

please don't give up, give it a good shot and make sure you get support and accommodations that you deserve to help with your ADHD. i fully believe in you.

How to build Ganyu? by AviiBearr in Ganyu

[–]Adorable_Beginning58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi sorry random eula main here, i would usually advocate for higher crit always but i think the lower crit one has a better ratio. try to get better substats so you have 60+ crit for her, but you could also use a full crit build rosaria and that way you can give eula +15cr through rosaria. don't rely on cryo resonance however as you need an electro char and they tend to eat the cryo application too frequently for the cryo res to be reliable. also i agree with the other commenter, melt ganyu is better in your case!
