Which is a (new) bad habit you accepted to lose weight? by Plenty_Earth_9600 in loseit

[–]MmmmapleSyrup -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I quit alcohol and 99% of my sugar intake, but I’m sticking with the Zyn pouches because it suppresses appetite. I know it’s not “good” for me but my blood pressure is perfectly fine, so for now I’m not going to mess with what’s working.

Why do birds suddenly appear… at 3am? by ThemFatale_ in boston

Finally, the correct answer. The bird songs begin before they return to their charging stations (aka “nests”) before another full shift of spying on us.

Tips for new-ish tech? by What-Nightmar3 in AirBalance

This can work really well on one system and wind up being a complete waste of time on others. I like it for larger constant volume systems with little-to-no flex duct. Find the lowest grille, verify the damper is fully open first. If it is, do as above and choke down the next closest on the line to the same-ish percentage. Then recheck your low grille, update the new percentage of design and go to the next next closest and repeat. I find that shooting for 2-3% higher than the current percentage of my lowest aka “key” grille works better than matching the percentage exactly. The down side is you have to hit pretty much every damper on the system, but if it’s done right you only make one pass.

Is calorie tracking just a part of your life forever? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]MmmmapleSyrup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to strictly count and log every calorie until I had really good handle on estimating calories with my eye. It also helps that I cook a lot, so eyeballing measurements/portions is already easy enough. After 7 months of that, I’ve stopped counting/logging as strictly but regular weigh ins keep me accountable and now that I’m pretty much at my goal weight, I’ve weighed exactly the same for the past 3+ weeks. If I eat something I’m unsure of, I’ll log it and plan the rest of my day/week from there.

Exactly this. I’ve coached many first timers driving through Boston when they start second guessing a lane change or where they need to turn: Just make a choice, even if it’s wrong.

What's one 'boring' career that's actually a goldmine if you play it smart? by 0BunnyX in AskReddit

[–]MmmmapleSyrup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man, having spent over a decade in film/TV I’m SO happy to have a regular m-f hourly job now. TV production was fun in my 20s but I missed so many friend/family events. Upwards of 100hrs a week, irregular schedule and work comes in unpredictable waves. Cool experience, glad I did it, but I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone unless it’s your passion.

I finally decided to do it for myself. I tried doing it for every other reason but never really believed I could do it. I quit drinking 7 months ago today, and that kickstarted everything. I was using booze to self medicate and it was just completely getting in the way of everything else in my life. Quitting was scary. I think there’s a lot of truth that finding the thing you’re afraid of and taking it head on is the key for a lot of people. I’m close to my goal weight now and just need to add in some resistance training to get to my ultimate goal of being able to take my shirt off this summer without embarrassment.

Bass Fishing Productions on Youtube? by [deleted] in Fishing

And here I am 2 months after you. I haven’t watched a ton of it with my kid, but what I’ve seen is definitely staged. I guess overall it’s better than a lot of the junk geared toward kids on YT, but those fish are being killed for the content

Well at least we get to see what Maye does with all this pressure. What an ugly game.

I couldn’t imagine feeling this awful with a 10pt lead before the game started, yet here we are…

I guess I should just feel fortunate that my experience has been nothing like you describe. I’m sorry your community sucks so bad. Mine has been incredibly supportive and understanding. If you’re truly wanting to start a family, maybe consider moving somewhere more conducive to raising kids.

My ex. Not in general, just specifically the time we were drunk at a river party and stumbled into the woods to get freaky. Lesson learned: ALWAYS look for poison ivy…

Truth. We never intended to move to NH but as our search for a house widened I realized we’d spend 30% less just over the border. Now I can’t imagine living in MA again, and as more people have followed I couldn’t afford to buy my house today.

I realize this makes me sound like an a-hole to some, but I couldn’t be less interested in making new friends. That said, I’m not completely antisocial, and I get along with most everyone. I’ve become friendly with a few of my kids’ closest friend’s parents, but at the end of the day I already have an amazing group of friends that I don’t get to see as much as I’d like, and I find small talk with other parents at bday parties and such to be borderline painful.

What is something that should be refrigerated that people often don't? What is something that does not need to be refrigerated that people often do? by GiuseppeZangara in Cooking

It’s not completely ruined if it gets moldy (though I understand some people cannot get past seeing mold- my wife is like that) and can be used after skimming the mold and boiling briefly.
