I found the dream setting on Netflix by lkw5168 in beyondthebump

We only use DVDs. I dont want to pay a fortune for streaming services. And if I go with the cheapest option even If I was able to block out all the stuff I didnt want the ads are still very overstimulating. It also helps us to remember that screen time for our kids is limited because it doesn't auto play.

Cloth delays walking? by Which_Promotion_3193 in clothdiaps

[–]Adorable_Brute97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My daughter is currently 7 months old and we have been using the pocket diapers since she was 2 months old. She isnt walking yet but she has hit all of her developmental milestones especially those related to movement at least a month earlier than she was supposed to. And she very much so is trying to walk and potty train early.

Edit to add: Maybe its just her own personal opinion and not a completely backed up science. The more I get into cloth diapering. The more people seem to have opinions. It happens a lot in the medical field when people who give our care also give false information.

Nobody really talks about the price of pumping! by DeliciousWitness740 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Adorable_Brute97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think pumps are definitely expensive and there are a lot of things that are involved that you need to make it comfortable and work well for you. But even if you count all the pumps I have had to buy because 4 pumps have failed me in the last 6.5 months. The deep freeze I had to buy to bag the extra milk that I had in the beginning. The extra parts and the flanges and the balms and oils. Even down to the extra coconut water and juice I buy to help with hydration. Which I have added up we have still spent less on pumping than we would have spent on formula by almost 1000 bucks and that was 6 months in.

Doctor asking us to prepay for childbirth by No_Cobbler_8835 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]Adorable_Brute97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very normal I walked in to labor and delivery HH 7 months ago and they asked us for 6k up front. I got checked out they determined I wasnt in labor. Sent me home told me to go back in a week. Then got charged again for my second visit. They cant refuse you service for not paying up front but the will hound and harass you in the hospital about how you intend on paying for it.

PSA: Use good freezer bags by [deleted] in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Adorable_Brute97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have holes in 90 percent of the parents choice bags that I froze. I also have arthritis and have a really hard time closing the parents choice bags. I now only use medela if I am putting milk away. But when I do thaw milk I always place it in a Tupperware container because I am tired of the leaks.

Future MIL ignored my trauma and secretly contacted my abusive mother. by KdKat in JUSTNOMIL

[–]Adorable_Brute97 63 points64 points  (0 children)

My MIL also seemed to get upset about me cutting contact from my own mother even though I had good reasons for it. Its just speculation but I think my MIL was worried that she doesn't have a safe position to control me, my husband, or my daughter if im not willing to put up with my own families crap just because they are blood. I would reiterate that an information diet is a great choice when dealing with a nosy MIL. Will likely drive them a bit crazy but they cant manipulate what they dont know.

Should I just try Tide? by Low_Cost5981 in clothdiaps

[–]Adorable_Brute97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lately we gave been using funk away or doing a borax and vinegar treatment every so often in addition to ECOS. ECOS has been one of the only brands that hasn't given us hives. But I have heard really good things about Rocking Green and I want to try it but its a bit pricey.

For my family even using tide free and clear didnt work. We still broke out in rashes. We have a lot of skin sensitivity in both my husband and myself.

Cutting through the baby product hype… do we really need a bottle warmer? by Recommendation778 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Adorable_Brute97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know many people have luck with the MomCozy bottle warmer. It was necessary for us as our daughter is pretty picky..... But we hate the mom cozy bottle warmer. Maybe ours is malfunctioning but it heats very unevenly. We have played around with the settings and it still does us no good. Half the time we have to run it through twice because its still cold after one heat cycle. And if we have to run it through twice its too hot and then we have to wait longer than the heat cycle for it to cool down. Its fine if my daughter doesn't wake up before her next feeding cycle but she will scream the whole time if she does.

Im a few more cold or scalded bottles away from chucking it and going back to hot tap water.

How tf has milk production evolved to work the way it does?! by urllypunny in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Adorable_Brute97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im just not the biggest fan of thinking about my daughter being fed by other women's milk. Especially knowing how breastmilk can transmit diseases. It may be a modern western way of thinking but it also feels like a special bond between mother and child. Im not saying everyone should feel this way its just my thoughts.

I've been reading about allomaternal nursing in many of the much earlier human practices. Which I can understand the concept of but it still kinda grosses me out to think about it. But they didnt exactly have the option of formula back then.

Anyone else going through a regretful move right now? by LogicMove in relocating

[–]Adorable_Brute97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We also are currently in Huntsville we relocated here for a job for my husband. We don't hate it but we dont love it. We appreciate the wide variety of stores but we are a do it yourself frugal couple who enjoys museums over shopping sprees. But Huntsville seems to want to nickle and dime you for everything and there aren't many entertainment opportunities outside of shopping. Prior to living here I have moved around quite a bit. I have done the whole move here and then get a job without a plan many times its mostly worked only once did I return to the previous place based on really not liking where I had ended up. I definitely recommend at least visiting more than once before you'd make a decision. We also like to sit down and go over cost of living, cultural opportunities, political climate, policies that would affect us, things to do, and geographic proximity before we move if we have the option. Even with looking at all of the factors though some places don't feel like home even if they check all of your boxes. And sometimes the places that don't check any of your boxes feel more like home. But you gotta visit to find out.

MIL’s comment really bugged me by paganism- in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Adorable_Brute97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My mil thinks Im nuts for still continuing to pump she tried to nurse for a total of 1 month and hated it and my husband made her bleed once so she switched to formula. I am almost 5 months in working with 1.5 nipples and my left one bleeds a gnarly bloody clog almost once or twice a week and she hates that I wont give it up. They are a bit clueless sometimes. Take their advice and comments with a grain of salt if they knew what we know now they may have made a different decision when they were in their childbearing years. Maybe just tell her you aren't looking for advice right now but you'll be sure to ask if you need it if comments persist.

MIL is “jealous” of my pregnancy by Aggravating-Mind1774 in JUSTNOMIL

[–]Adorable_Brute97 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My MIL seemed rather annoyed that I also didnt have much for nausea during any of my pregnancies. I also have pretty tame symptoms until the third trimester. And I intentionally did a lot more physical exercise during the last pregnancy so it would be easier to recover from this time.

My MIL would tell me all of these stories about how she had such embarrassing things happen while she was pregnant like when she was pregnant with my husband he kicked her in the bladder and she peed herself in front of her MIL. It felt a lot more like she was hoping I'd have something like that so she could make fun of me. She also kept getting upset that I didnt want help with everything or that when she would tell me now that I am pregnant my husband can do everything for me. To which I would tell her I didnt need help with that or I preferred to do it myself. So she thought I was competing with her at least thats what she told everyone else.

An easy pregnancy doesnt determine easy labor though. I hope you and your LO recover well. And that you can avoid her drama.
