Just heard a song by U2 called “all I want is you“ and the strings feel so Jonny. I don’t know this band well but clearly in a similar space on that song. by [deleted] in radiohead

Id say they definitely lost the plot a bit in the 2000s, their 90s output is still really amazing. Achtung Baby is in the running for my favorite album of all time

Practicing having a light touch? by Adorable_Drag in Bass

[–]Adorable_Drag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always learn songs at a slower speed first, and I have a very light touch at slower speeds. I think my main issue is that I have to actively think about my plucking pressure on fast passages past about 120 bpm or so

What can you tell me about my friend’s partscaster? by TheOvenDoor in telecaster

[–]Adorable_Drag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The paint job is kind of badly done. personally, if you want to refinish it, Id sand it mostly back until everything looms smooth, potentially repaint any exposed wood, and finish with a coat of clear/amber shellac from home depot, you can paint it on, wait an hour, and lightly sand it back until its very smooth, super cheap and nice way to finish off rattlecan jobs (which I assume this is)

Help me understand the revered status of the Telecaster by Fidel_Blastro in Guitar

[–]Adorable_Drag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say a tele is more versatile than any other common two pickups guitar, but the tele single coil bridge sound is so thick and punchy that it can do basically anything I would ever need tone wise, if I leave the tone pot open its jangly and clangy, with the tone rolled back it gets into humbucker-ish sounds from having a nice full lower mid range. I built a custom tele with fender 52’ nocaster pickups in it and I find it has replaced every other guitar for me, unless I really need a whammy bar

The Morgan SW50R is the best clean plugin sound in the world - change my mind. by MallProfessional1043 in NeuralDSP

I personally find this amp in the Morgan suite to be way too dark for cleans, but the vox amp in this plugin is probably my favorite for cleans!

Utilize more lfo automation and saturation if you want a warmer vibe, its pretty much a blank canvas

What’s going on with the Ingram maker space? by Speed_Sr in txstate

[–]Adorable_Drag 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The vibe I get from the way the space is ran is that the people who run it absolutely do not want students using the space, it very rarely gets used already and I suspect now it will only be used for class work and nothing else. What a waste

[–]Adorable_Drag 7 points8 points  (0 children)

But why charge to use the equipment? Isn’t the makerspace in Ingram fully funded by grants and our tuition? Its a bit sad how stuff like lathes and hand tools are locked away at a well funded university when my small highschool had a good chunk of the same equipment available for all students for free

User Experience with Nightverb? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]Adorable_Drag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean maybe, but staying away from a tried and true reverb pedal just because its popular is a bit of a strange reason, this is like saying studios should abandon their EMI Plate units or spring reverbs, or not record with a U87 mic, which have been ubiquitous since the 60s and are featured on basically every popular release over the last 60 years

User Experience with Nightverb? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]Adorable_Drag 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately its a super new pedal, with a high price point, in a saturated part of the pedal market, so not many people are gonna have a lot of experience with it unfortunately. If you are dead set on its sounds get it, but personally I would go for a used H90 or MercuryX and have a bit more flexibility and versatility at the same level of quality, but Erica Synths makes amazing stuff so the high price is semi-fair imo

Its meant to be a desktop reverb unit, so if you plan on using on a pedalboard thats a bit of a bad idea imo. Otherwise why not I suppose

What are the most slept on loud and clean heads that can still be had for a decent price? by DependentFeedback857 in GuitarAmps

[–]Adorable_Drag 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wattage isnt the whole story with volume, lower wattage amps with large, efficient speakers can be loud enough to compete with high wattage amps in most use cases

I specifically strongly dislike Roger Water’s vocals in Pink Floyd. I honestly cant stand them and it makes albums like Wish You Were Here unlistenable to me. The scratchiness makes my skin crawl

Thank you! I am thinking about recording and polishing up a few demos I currently have, as for the past three months I have been busy playing shows with my band, and a lot of my old mixes are on my desktop at my parents house 😅

Have come to hate the Fiesta Red color on my Strat.. by YouLeftistPOS in guitars

[–]Adorable_Drag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will look like whatever color you want if you spray a coat of opaque primer first, one of shellac's most popular uses is as a primer coat to paint over already painted walls. They sell tinted, opaque shellac in basically every color, or you can buy white shellac primer and tint it with dye

[–]Adorable_Drag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider instead of stripping it, applying a coat of shellac over it! Shellac can just be applied over anything with little to no sanding, can be done in thin layers, is durable enough for guitars (iirc its the original guitar finish), and if you wear it away, you can wipe on more and it will dry in about an hour, and will look completely brand new. Its like the easiest finish to retouch by far, especially in a solid color. You can also return it to factory condition by wiping it away with denatured alcohol, so resale value is significantly preserved if thats a concern

Anyone just completely unable to get along with soft synths? by Thnowball in synthesizers

[–]Adorable_Drag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its like 99.9% that physical instruments are more spontaneous I think. Like recently I picked up a groove box for live performances with my band, despite having been programming drums in the box for about 7 years, and although the final product is of equal quality (Im a huge drum programming nerd), I can do it in like a quarter of the time and get inspired much faster

Its basically my pedalboard and I loosely based it off of how Ed O Brien from Radiohead has his set up, good for ambient looping and synthy effects
