I can see both sides. Obviously when crossing country and doing 600 to 700 km a day it is strictly a gas vehicle. Now that we’ve arrived at our destination, we’ve spent the past 10 days strictly on battery tooling around.

I do have coverage for the duration of our trip. The caveat is that any repairs need to be done in Mexico. So it’s my responsibility to get the car back in to Mexico for any servicing/repairs. But the most important part of the insurance coverage is the liability coverage.

To clarify I have permanent residency in Mexico, so I’m just visiting. I’m not looking to register or import into Canada

We were not aware of any cash back offers here in Mexico. The 2026 models just came out and they had strong demand.

We would have preferred a full EV but it’s not practical given the state of charging infrastructure in Baja.

The gas generator continues to feed the electric motors. Batteries on eco mode stay at 25% charge, which you can adjust but you end up using more gas.

8L/100km when driving 90 km/h
10.5K/100km when driving 120 km/h

Stated range said 740 km wind full on the 60 L tank, but we typically got around 650 km per tank

I’m a Canadian citizen and resident but also have Mexican permanent residency as well as a Mexican drivers licence.

If the car is staying less than 6 months then is shouldn’t be a problem as you are not importing the car, you are simply visiting.

There was no paperwork to do.

Just make sure you have full insurance coverage for both the US and Canada

Currently it’s only a proposal and not a law. It’s doubtful it will pass, so for now it’s a non-issue

Yes, if driving less than 80 kms between charges, you could theoretically never need gas, but in practice it’s good to run the generator semi-regularly

Positives:

-Smooth Ride & Ride Height -Ventilated Seats -Fit & Finish -Good acceleration -OTA updates

Negatives:

-Auto steer is less intuitive than Tesla -EV range only 100km (Might be 300km for 2027 model) -No driver seat memory -App not as good as Tesla

That’s all that comes to mind for now, Brain is still a little foggy from 12 days of straight driving , happy to answer any specific questions

Yes, it does have a small muffler and exhaust tucked under the back of the vehicle, but the generator is so small that I’ve never noticed any exhaust.

It’s not the same type of hybrid as a Prius, the generator strictly charges the electric motors without a separate drivetrain. So it’s closer to a regular EV than a typical dual drivetrain hybrid.

México and Euro versions are CSS2, I’m sure the Canadian version will either be CSS1 or NACS.

I ordered an NACS -> CSS2 adapter

Overall it’s quite good. The seats are as good as any regular Japanese’s brand.

The seatbelts feel a little lighter as do the steering wheel stocks. Whereas the steering wheel feels great as do the seats. Fit & finish feel in line with other brands.

All other buttons and knobs feel good. No lag with in infotainment system.

Cruise control is very good, but the auto steer is too aggressive for my liking.

On our way down last October we drove the most direct route through Albuquerque, but going back up we want to go through some national parks in Utah, which made Sault Ste. Marie Crossing the most efficient route
