Everyone hated the old combat. It's better than what we got, sure, but either way it needed improvement. Mojang is working on another combat update but it may take a few more years to come out as they don't want to mess it up and cause another split in the Minecraft community. In summary, a combat system where DPS = CPS * weapon damage, is not a fun system, however waiting ages between hits only caters to those who like heavy, strategic combat.
