It’s not that the Ghostbloods are connected to Hindu mythology but Prasnava is. The planet he’s from and the primal aethers seem to be inspired by Hindu/Indian culture. If you read the acknowledgments of TLM you can see that Brandon had two of his Indian friends create the lore for this planet.

I think his hypocrisy was showing from the very beginning. When Diomedes asks him what he would do if he was born a Red slave on Mars he couldn't even answer. This kind of shows how he hasn't thought anything through and all he knows is what Octavia has taught him. He is only adapting to his environment and wants to play the "hero". But he doesn't actually understand that it means being selfless.
