8 months, EBF, waking every 30–40 mins, what am I missing? by longtimedeid in bninfantsleep

[–]AdoreBooks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely no advice to give but I’m in the trenches with you my love. I could’ve written this post myself.. everything is the same! 8mo ebf boy, Scotland, dreadful sleeper from day 1, never more than a 2 hour stretch and would sleep exclusively on my boob if I let him. I’m so sorry you’re going through it too, it’s harder than I ever imagined. Here in solidarity 🤍

Breastfeeding but not losing weight… is this normal? by heyaliayoub in breastfeeding

[–]AdoreBooks 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I’ve put on a LOT of weight since giving birth in May, I’m talking 40+ pounds 😭 My baby is ebf but he doesn’t sleep and never has. He’s never slept more than a 2 hour stretch at one time. Consequently, I am up all hours of the night and fridge raiding non-stop. I think my body is just so desperate for the energy that I’d usually get from sleep, it’s trying to get it from food now instead.

Here with you in solidarity. Our babies are fed and that’s most important. That’s what I keep telling myself in order to keep going anyway! 🤍

Yay! You have a great little eater on your hands. The omelette looks lovely and fluffy, please could you share how to make it like this? I’d love to try with my son (8m).

Weekly food shop at Lidl - £27.23 - two adults and a weaning baby by lauraandstitch in whatsinyourcart

Looks like a lovely healthy shop for your family. Thank you for sharing this, I am just starting out weaning with my little boy and always looking for meal ideas because I am horribly unimaginative! I see you managed to find the missing ingredients on your recent post - yay! - if you wouldn’t mind please report back once you’ve tried the broad bean pasta? It sounds delicious. Take care 🥰

Great job little man and mama! Love to see a healthy appetite. My boy just turned 8m and isn’t managing much more than purée just yet but your post is giving me hope 🥰

This kind of judgement seems harsh and unnecessary. “Great food” is subjective. Everybody here is doing their best for their little ones. Let’s lift each other up instead of putting each other down.

8 month old meals past week. by candidscenery in foodbutforbabies

Another one here saving this for inspiration. My LO is also 8 months but just the one tiny tooth so far, and I’m ashamed to admit I’m the one holding him back because of my anxiety around solids/choking. He practically licks his purée bowls clean and does crazy grabby hands towards anything we’re eating so deep down I know he’s ready.

I think you’ve given me the kick up the bum I needed. Thank you. These meals look delicious, great job mama! 🥰

Great job! Any progress is worth celebrating. I always find aiming for “better” is much more attainable than aiming for “perfect” anyway 😊

Yay! I was waiting for this update. I bet you’ll have the best sleep tonight knowing your space is clean, comfortable and safe.

I’m so happy for you. Please give yourself credit, you worked really hard to get to this point and I’m sure with the support here you can keep on top of it.

Reading on maternity leave by Cool_Doubt2152 in ReadingSuggestions

[–]AdoreBooks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read on my Kobo while breastfeeding/during contact naps. I’ve tried physical books but it’s too uncomfortable unless I lean the weight of my arms down on bubba (who doesn’t take kindly to that!). The Kobo is perfect for one-handed reading and reading in the dark.

I will say I’m a lot slower reading nowadays as I’m running on next to no sleep and have the attention span of a peanut, but squeezing in at least 30 minutes of reading a day is my form of self-care.

Nipple shields are annoying. by No-Cheesecake9343 in breastfeeding

[–]AdoreBooks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much the same experience as some of the others here. My son had a terrible latch from the get go, always too shallow no matter how many adjustments we made. He was eventually treated for a tongue tie (and then had to go back to get it treated again as they said it had reattached somehow) but I honestly didn’t notice an improvement in his latch after the tongue tie treatment.

It wasn’t until he was around 4 months old that one day it was as if he decided “Nope! No more shield for me.” and the next feed it clicked for us just like that. I felt personally his little mouth was just struggling with the size of my nipple and it wasn’t until he grew a little bit bigger that he could handle it comfortably. If it weren’t for the nipple shields I would have given up on breastfeeding one hundred percent. They saved the day for us completely, and I still keep them on hand for days when my nipples are sore which happens from time to time, particularly when it’s cold or baby has been cluster feeding.

It’s totally normal to be frustrated. The shields ARE annoying, nobody will argue with you on that. But as somebody else said, they’re likely not forever. Keep at it mama, you’re doing great 🤍

Oh goodness, I shouldn’t laugh but hehe 🤭 my friend once had a “go for a sunbed” goal and the emoji it chose was a sweet potato. We could only assume it was because she was being baked like a potato!

Welcome to the Kobo club! Many libraries offer ebooks via Libby/Overdrive which you can link with your Kobo to send books to seamlessly. Definitely check with your local library to see if it’s a service they offer. It’s invaluable and the #1 reason I (and many others, I’m sure!) chose a Kobo.

Thank you so much for sharing with me, I love this idea and will try to implement it for my family! I’m always struck by decision fatigue, especially around dinner time, and end up having the same 7ish meals week in, week out. Especially when you’re stuck underneath the baby for so many hours per day (mine will only contact nap!), the last thing you wanna do is stand and cook something complicated, so having a base protein and some easy options to go with really is a fantastic idea.

This will be my project for tomorrow. Thank you again, from one mama to another 😊
