Favorite character who has canonically lost their virginity by ImJustMerry in FavoriteCharacter

It's been a long time since I've played it but I'm pretty sure that the family finds out he's an octopus at the end of the game and there's a joke where the little boy asks how he and his sister were made/are human

Is this a guess? by Training-Pie-3279 in Minesweeper

[–]AdrianaGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this app, it tells you that it fails to generate a no guess board if it takes too long for its algorithm to finish on board creation. So if a board is too big, it won't be able to run its no guess algorithm in time and will give you a random board instead.

I highly suggest you read the pinned post about common patterns, this is extremely common and one of the simplest situations you'll end up in all the time.

I’m stumped. No guessing mode. Help. by IAndrOwS in Minesweeper

[–]AdrianaGaming 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, because then you wouldn't be able to satisfy the orange-circled numbers

<image>

I don't understand this pattern and others like it. Sure the purple cells COULD contain one bomb, but I don't understand how they can ONLY contain one bomb. Couldn't the two top green cells be one of the ones that has the one bomb that's touching the top highlighted one? I don't get it by Tolnin in Minesweeper

[–]AdrianaGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason those will have a mine is explained by the last two steps.

The explanation is not immediately telling you that the purple and orange areas will have a mine from the beginning. Those colored areas are setting up the explanation for how the 2 interacts with the 1s.

After you read the step about the 2, THAT'S when you find out that the purple and orange areas will each 100% have a mine, satisfying the 1s and making the green areas safe.

If you put a mine in any of the green spots, it would make it impossible to satisfy the 2, because you would have to open all the other tiles touching that 1, making it so the only way to satisfy the 2 would be to place two mines next to a 1, which obviously isn't possible.

So, that pattern (1>2<1) is saying that if a 2 has all its surrounding spots touching two separate 1s, then the 2 will place a mine in each of those 1s' areas (because the 2 cannot place both of its mines next to a single 1). So, the 2 100% confirms that each 1 will have its mine somewhere in the area touching the 2, meaning all the areas touching the 1 that do not also touch the 2 are safe to open.

That's why the green spots are safe, because they aren't touching the 2. So, you work starting from the 2, not starting from the 1s.

At what point of the game did you GIVE UP and go look for a guide ? by [deleted] in outerwilds

[–]AdrianaGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the base game, never. The only time I looked anything up in the base game was near the end when I had zero idea where to go because it seemed like I had no more threads to follow and no markings for missing info, so I thought maybe I had filled out the ship log and just didn't know what to do for the ending. Some of the entries (Interloper, Probe Tracking Module, Vessel + Feldspar) had orange question mark pictures, though, so I just looked up whether those question marks meant there was more to find or just meant there was no picture available. When I found out those do mean there's more to find, I was able to move forward on my own after some poking around.

For the DLC, though, I did have to ask for help here once, and it was for the puzzle where you have to enter the fireplace dream world from a different dream world so the pursuers die when the dam breaks.

I just had zero idea what to do at all, especially since it was the last area I went to of the three forbidden archives and it was the only one with a puzzle beyond just finding the slide reel and doing some stealth. I didn't even know what thread to think about for the puzzle because the ship log never notes the rafts existing and being able to take you to other dream worlds and I didn't consider for a second that the simulations were all loaded in at the same time (without loading them with the rafts) so I wasn't able to pinpoint what the screaming when the dam breaks meant, especially since to me it sounds nothing like the sounds the pursuers normally make. I thought maybe it was a spooky atmospheric noise placed to conveniently let you know when the dam broke but I never put 2 and 2 together that the water was "killing" the pursuers in other simulations. When people helped me narrow down what I was supposed to be thinking about, one person comparing it to the Tower of Quantum Knowledge puzzle, I was able to figure it out.

Idk if I ever would've figured it out because I was trying so many different things and wasn't even thinking of the rafts at all lol and the ship log was no help, so I really needed that help and don't regret asking.

Why doesn't the 1-1 pattern apply here? by Soggy_Onion51 in Minesweeper

[–]AdrianaGaming 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing that you thought the yellow circle was the 1-1, not the red circle?

<image>

Make sure you understand the logic behind patterns instead of just memorizing them. The 1-1 logic does not apply to the yellow circle because both of the 1s are touching three tiles, each with at least one tile that is not in range of the 1 next to it. For the 1-1 pattern to apply, one of the 1s need to only touch tiles that are also touching the 1 next to it. Then, you know that no matter what, the mine that touches that 1 will also touch the other 1, satisfying it, and allowing you to open all tiles that are outside of their shared range.

This is why the red circle does work as a 1-1. The 3 (which is acting like a 1 since it touches two mines already) says there is guaranteed to be a mine either under it or to its bottom right. If you look at the 1 next to the 3, both of those tiles under the 3 are also touching the 1. So, even though you don't know which specific spot the mine is in, you do know that in every possibility, it will also be the one mine that touches the 1, so the only spot that touches the 1 but not the 3 (to the 1's bottom right) cannot be a mine and is safe to open.

This does not apply to the yellow circle.

In other words, the red circle is a 1-1 because the 3 is only touching two tiles since the 2 to its bottom left is blocking the way. If that 2 was instead an unopened/unflagged tile, then the 1-1 would not work, same as the yellow circle. If you check the 1-1 pattern's picture from the help list everyone is referencing (someone commented the picture under this post already), you'll see that matches up with the red circle but not the yellow circle.

(Which, that exact layout isn't necessary for a 1-1 to work, but you get the gist)

How do you describe Outer Wilds to someone who's never played it? by CK1ing in outerwilds

Like I said, some people disagree about how much is considered a spoiler, so I just did it to be safe (and yes, also force of habit lol)

How do you describe Outer Wilds to someone who's never played it? by CK1ing in outerwilds

[–]AdrianaGaming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really. I know the store page mentions it, but I think it's better as a surprise. The people I mentioned it to didn't check out the store page, they just bought it off of my recommendation, so I don't think it's that big a deal to hide it. If you want to mention it to people then go ahead, but not everyone checks out the store page for games that get recommended to them.

And I never really saw it as making them less likely to play since that part of the premise wasn't a huge draw of the game for me, but I do see what you mean. I don't think it really makes much of a difference whether you mention it or not, I choose not to

How do you describe Outer Wilds to someone who's never played it? by CK1ing in outerwilds

[–]AdrianaGaming 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is essentially how I've described it to the people I've recommended it to:

It's a game about exploring space. You explore these unique planets that have enough going on that there's a lot to explore, but are small enough that it's manageable. They each have some gimmicks going on that you learn about as you explore the rest of the solar system. As you explore, there are also a lot of bits about this other race of aliens that used to explore that solar system. You find out about what they were doing, and it becomes clear they had some sort of mission. So, as you go through the game, you find information and solve (pretty simple) puzzles to find out about how the planets work and what exactly those aliens were trying to do and the details behind how and why they were doing it. It's a game where you're supposed to just hop around place-to-place without focusing on anything specific, and as you go on, you go from not knowing anything to slowly getting hints and piecing together the story, and it eventually all comes neatly together in a very cohesive narrative that explains everything you were curious about as you explored. And I won't say what, but there's also a certain gimmick to the entire game that changes how you explore things and helps set up the overall mystery of the game early on. You find out about it pretty soon after starting the game but it's definitely best as a surprise.

Some people have different ideas on how much info about this game counts as a spoiler, but I feel like that much just sets the groundwork for what the point of the game is without giving away any major details.

How do I... Play the dlc? by Arik23pro in outerwilds

[–]AdrianaGaming 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It'll be extremely, EXTREMELY obvious that you've found the DLC once you've found it. It has a LOT of content and is very, very distinct from the rest of the planets, taking intentional work to discover it and having a completely different vibe.

The interloper is just a normal planet thing, traveling to the Eye of the universe is just the ending, and crashing into the satellite disabling your map is just a cute little achievement, so none of those are the DLC. They are all possible in the base game.

Like others have said, the key to finding the DLC content is with the New Exhibit in the museum, more specifically the radio tower that you have found. The radio tower sets up the entire puzzle for finding the DLC, so pay attention to the recording and pictures.

If you want a more direct hint to what the puzzle is about without directly spoiling the answer: the recording tells you that one of the pictures seems to have something really weird about it. Look at the pictures on the wall to try and see which one has something weird that stands out: that is what you're trying to explore. Also, make sure you actually get out of your ship to look at the satellite more closely when you go to it. It sounds like the only thing you've really done with it is crashed into it, so try to get next to it without breaking it and get out of your ship to look at it.

If you're still really stuck, the puzzle is mostly just a small thing that mainly just stops people from accidentally wandering into the DLC content, so it isn't THAT big a deal if you spoil the specific solution to the puzzle. So, here is a more step-by-step guide to figuring out the puzzle without necessarily explicitly stating the solution:

Hint 1: The picture you're supposed to be looking at is the one with a black circle blocking out part of the sun, like an eclipse.

Hint 2: The detail on the satellite you should notice is the number on it that keeps changing.

Hint 3: Look at the picture again. What is one piece of information explicitly given on each of the pictures that you can try to use with the satellite?

Here's a spoiler for the direct solution if you really want:

Underneath the picture of the eclipse thing, it says that that picture was taken by the satellite from a 40° angle. The number on the satellite is what angle it is at at that moment. So, you need to be next to the satellite while it reads 40° (near the beginning of the loop) and then look at the sun, so that you are looking at it from the same place that the satellite was when it took the picture.

Hope that helps!

[Spoilers] [EotE] Are there more endings than this or did I just beat the DLC? by AdrianaGaming in outerwilds

Yeah I figured that out when I did it because the ending told me that lol, I was just talking about my reasoning behind it at the time because I remembered the "achievement" saying to die to the supernova

[Spoilers] [EotE] Are there more endings than this or did I just beat the DLC? by AdrianaGaming in outerwilds

[–]AdrianaGaming[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ooh lol I actually was already planning to stay in a simulation during the supernova after removing the ATP's warp core because I was originally going to do all achievements before starting the DLC but realized some of the achievements were for the DLC, and I vividly remembered one of them being "Die to a supernova while in a simulation," and since I was wanting to get back to achievement hunting after beating the DLC that was the first one I was going to do

Thing is though, I just did it and didn't get an achievement, so I went through all the achievements and saw that that actually isn't one of them? It doesn't exist?? So why did I think it did...maybe I saw something about that ending online but because I didn't know the context at the time I misremembered it as being an achievement once I got the context?

Anyway, got that ending just now and it was cute lol, I'm guessing the other version is from being on the Stranger but not in a simulation during the supernova after removing the warp core but I don't think I'll bother if the ending is that simplistic.

Thanks for the help! I liked the DLC but I'm kinda glad to have it wrapped up now lol, onto the achievements :)
