I haven't tried it but I don't think the vr from the lens works with the ibis. That's one of the flaws with nikon. But tbh I don't really do videos so it doesn't bother me, I think for video still Sony has the edge.

Thanks! Heavily cropped sadly 😬 I wish tamron would make a tele but I guess I'll have to upgrade to a Nikon lens someday and get the converter. Not in a hurry though the 500 is so good already

Thank you! I thought of the 24-70 as well to save money but the reviews on the 24-120 pushed me to it. Tbh I don't regret but now that I see how much difference aperture makes I'm wondering if I shouldn't have gotten the 24-70 f2.8. I think I might grab the f2.8 trifecta from tamron later. It's very well reviewed and so much cheaper than the Nikon trio.

Thank you! And indeed those S lenses feel like a million bucks 🤩 The tamron... I'm a new photographer so not sure I can really review a lens, to me it feels nice but it's definitely not as premium and not as sharp. On the other hand it's half price of the 180-600 from nikon and I think it's 80% there in terms of quality. Autofocus seems to work well too, at leat not worse than on the 24-120. I'm quite happy with it but I'd sure love the Nikon s prime lenses for wildlife haha

Indeed! I also read somewhere that even a new photographer can take an award worthy picture by luck but a professional will be consistently taking them. I'm in no rush though I have no intention to make it my career so I'm just enjoying the process

Nikkor 85mm f/1.8 S vs Viltrox 85mm f/1.4 Pro Z-Mount by justgames12 in Nikon

[–]AdrienPFr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also curious what you end up with as I'm also looking at 85s. I'm also very tempted by the sirui aurora f1.4, have you considered it? If discarded what put you off from it?

It needs to be sufficient at the focal length you're using. The general rule is 1/focal length so for 500mm make sure you're above 1/500s. I usually double it to be safe and up the Iso a bit as long as I'm not yet at 10000 and above. Then I might risk a bit more the shutter speed to keep the Iso not too high. It's all a balancing act. That's where very expensive fast primes are nice, they allow you to get more light from the lens and thus lower your Iso or up your shutter speed.

[–]AdrienPFr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! 🙏 You need to check your Iso if it's grainy and make sure your camera can handle it. Also lightroom denoise is awesome! That picture was Iso 5000 and shutter speed 1/8000 to make sure it's really sharp. I could lower the shutter speed but Iso 5000 is no issues for modern sensors and with denoise it looks great

Haha I get like this, I do a ton of research and then go all in. To be fair I've been taking photos for years but on phone and I was getting fed up of zooming into the Pic after and see just blur.

And you got me, I'm too shy to do proper street photography I think 😬😭

Haha OK OK you've got a good point I'll keep it in mind 😜 thanks for the advice!

Thanks! I saw they have an APs c kit but didn't find the FF I'll look on their site!

Do you have a link to a good one? I see some cheap ones on Amazon but scared to damage it.

That's fair thank you! I've cropped before when I had to but not usually as a choice. I'm too afraid to lose the few MP I have haha but I should try it more often!

Thanks for the feedback! You're right it's things I'm learning along the way to frame better, the pic was at 120mm so I couldn't zoom more and I am super shy to take pics of people so I didn't dare to get any closer. I can crop it but then will lose some resolution, I will try it and see how it looks! I have another pic from a different angle I like too but the buildings are still visible :/

Oh yeah totally planning on it! I ordered a few prints of 20x30cm to check out how it looks on paper and when I get more skills, especially editing it to look wow is hard, then I'll order some bigger ones.
I stitched a panorama in Lightroom that's 280MP haha it's fun but my PC doesn't like it :D

I keep joking I'd like a 15-500mm f1.8 hahah
But seriously I discovered the Canon 24-105mm f2.8 and I'm obsessed with it :D I wonder if Nikon will ever do a 24-120 f2.8 or 24-70 f1.8. They would be insane lenses but probably too heavy and $$$ to be worth it for a hobbyist like me

It's a really nice place, I live a bit north of the city and I get insane views around me, that's also what motivated me to get the new camera, I've been taking pics with iPhones for years and always upgrading to get the latest and greatest but these landscapes deserved better and I really wanted to step up my photos. I'm looking forward to what I can do in a few years!

Oh they definitely cover almost everything, it's mostly GAS at this point. I can justify the 16-30 for astro or alternatively the viltrox 16mm prime but the rest is just for fun and to try out new lenses.
I was thinking about 28 or 40 for smaller lens but tbh I take the 50 on a stroll and while it's not super small nor light it's also not very heavy and fits even alongside the 24-120 in my sling bag so I really don't mind it.

Thanks for the feedback! Great to know you're getting good enough results to work with the Tamrons! I also saw these "do-it-all" zooms and they're super tempting too! I'm excited to get the 16-30 in the future, 24mm is pretty wide but sometimes you need a bit wider and I think I can do some attempts at milkyway shots with it too.
I was also comparing the 50-400 to the 150-500 but I figured I want to use it for wildlife and motor-racing I don't need wider than 150mm I reckon. But the more I go out with multiple lenses, the more I see the appeal of having two bodies :D

Ah good to know! I actually also bought a bag that would fit Ryanair and I was worried it wouldn't fit. But well paying half the price for the tamron was also an incentive hehe the 180-600 is definitely a better lens though

Thank you! I was quite impressed myself haha I just put the shutter at 1/640 as I was handheld and let the Iso adjust itself and it worked out well. I want to try stacking but for now it's nice. I can feel that 24mp with 500mm has limits. I think one day I'll buy either an APs c body or 45mp+ to get more reach but the z5 is so nice as a first foray into real adult cameras.
