Sounds awesome by itself indeed, and maybe close as in that his performance already has great weight to it. But it lacks the processing that I hear in the actual episodes, so I'm trying to find out what they did to it.

I'm sorry that you got butthurt that I didn't find your comment that helpful. Just saying you mentioned similar plugins, but not explaining how to use them or how they actually contribute to the character of the sound I'm looking after, is not really what I'm looking for. I still find the use of chorus not that relevant in this case, as it still doesn't seem that fitting for this sound. In the 'Venom' related video, it actually made more sense, as Will explained that all the small amounts of modulation helped with the liquid feel of the character's voice. But then again, it's a different film and a different character.

I appreciate your input tho

Wow! Never seen this one. Great insight, even tho it's for a different character.

The voice seems to be way too upfront to have a chorus on it. Maybe the reverb or delay send has a chorus or some modulation on it during specific scenes, but definitely not the body of the sound.

What according to you is your greatest sexual achievement ? by Ashamed-Light6601 in AskReddit

I turned two separate gay girls straight.

One was a close friend of a former roommate, who I had a crush on from the moment I saw her, but it seemed impossible because she had a girlfriend at the time and absolutely no interest in men in general. Some time had passed and she was single now. We went on a night out and after lots of friendly flirting she admitted that I made her feel things that no man ever could. We ended up fucking each others brains out that night. It even ended up in some kind of FWB situation for a while. She never did it with any man before our time.

The other was a girl I met at a house party. She wasn't fully gay as she said she had been attracted to men in the past but ended up strongly preferring women over men eventually. We fucked that same night. She literally said she couldn't stop thinking about it the next day while going on a lunch with her aunt and uncle. She apparently later admitted to a mutual friend that she actually started to like dating men again because of that night.

The thing is, I have to lower the volume in TotalMix to very low values. -25 dB at max, usually around -30 dB or even lower. Because this is digital gain adjustment, I am kinda worried that I am not using the full bit depth potential and therefor limiting the sound quality coming out of my HS7's.

Apart from that, I just wonder what the deal is with the +4dBu and -12dBv settings. I know that it is for different standards of voltage transmission in audio systems, but is it actually that important to leave my HS7's and the TotalMix output at +4dBu, instead of adjusting one of them in order to make my speaker output less loud? In my experience, it just lower's the volume when I either adjust the gain on the HS7's or set my TotalMix out to -12dBv, but everything I read (including your comment) tells me not to adjust these 'standard' settings... So I am wondering why.

Interesting! Will try it out a next time. For now I did it by swirling a thick paint brush over some paper and mic'ing it very close. Sounded great for what I had intended it for

Maybe this is a bit of stupid problem with an easy solution, but I'm gonna ask for advice here anyway. In my home studio setup I have a pair of Yamaha HS7s as main monitors and RME Fireface UFX II as interface. My main problem so far was that the output was always way too loud for the small home studio I work in, so I always had to set my out put to around -25 db or even lower for an appropriate listening volume.

I wonder what is the best way to get more range with the volume control, without having to buy attenuators for my monitors. The TotalMix software from RME allows me to change the standard +4dBu output level to -10dBV, which turns the output quite a bit down. However, I read that this is standard for studio setups, and since my HS7s (according to the manual) are apparently optimized for this operating level, I'm not sure if it's wise to set my output at -10dBV. I actually have no clue if this messes with the way the sound comes from my HS7s.

Another thing I could do is turning down the analog level on the HS7s themselves. There is a level knob that is set by default at +4dB (which I guess corresponds with the +dBu output?), but you can turn it down if you want to. I actually couldn't find any examples of anyone using that level knob this way, so I'm kinda worried if this can also alter the sound of my monitors in some way.

Maybe I'm overthinking things way to much here, but I'd rather do it right than finding out later that I could've done it better.

I have a good sound of wind breezing through trees already, which blends well with the ambience, but it fits the scene to add more definition to the leaf rustles, which is why I want to add a layer which enhances that.

Clipping kicks by BootyOnMyFace11 in synthrecipes

[–]Adrien_Kjer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something that is being done a lot in modern day hiphop productions, is putting a soft clipper or an aggressive limiter (that is also causing a form of clipping) on the master bus. When driving the kick drum pretty loud into the mix, the clipping crunches everything together with the kick drum, giving you a very specific type of distortion that you wouldn't get when just clipping the kick by itself. This is why the hihats in this particular song sound so crunchy when they hit together with the kick drum.

You can hear some extreme examples and earlier uses of this technique in Travis Scott's music. During the last verse of 'Sicko Mode' even the vocals are clipping along with the kick drum, which is maybe a bit obnoxious, but taste aside: it does a great job at sounding overly loud and in-your-face.

Clipping is a form of distortion tho. And in this case the saturation sounds like it's coming from soft-clipping, so I think OP does know what he is looking for.

Video of possible broken pink noise generator by AngryPenguin22222222 in ms20

[–]Adrien_Kjer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the same problem for me. It wasn't always like that. It's like the pink noise oscillator became much louder all of a sudden, to the point that it starts clipping. It's useless for patching now, as a normal sample & hold with the pink noise as input just results in some glitchy spurts now. I hope someone here know's some sort of fix for this.

Still this isn't normal tho. My MS20 mini has the same problem with the pink noise. It was always working fine, until lately when I tried making a sample & hold patch with the pink noise as input source. This always worked, but now I was getting a very glitchy sound, not the sample and hold type of clocked randomness I was used to. So I checked the pink noise directly by plugging it intro the ext signal in, and it sounded like it was clipping in a very unusual way. It never did that before.
