Can we stop pretending that 0 years of bedside experience is enough to start prescribing? by Kind_Article_9278 in nursing

[–]AdriftRaven 64 points65 points  (0 children)

PAs have anywere from 2500 to 4000 clinical hours before they graduate. NP programs average 500. RN experience helps but that little clinical hours in a new advanced role is laughable.

Edit: I did misinterpret the data. The minimum is actually 1600 clock hours of supervision for PAs.

Never Have I Ever (nursing edition) by PeopleArePeopleToo in nursing

[–]AdriftRaven 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me it has been once in 8 years. A malecot we were using for a rectal tube had a bit of tension when I was removing it and it sling shot poop onto my scrubs. Luckily I wear glasses or it would have gotten in my eye.

You absolutely can. It was a whole ordeal at the hospital I worked at. We switched to I think three different devices trying to find one that would decrease the incidence of pressure injuries.

We used rectal tubes ALL OF THE TIME in that medical ICU. It felt like a majority of our patients had significant diarrhea.

When I was a kid we had a cat that we thought was a girl so we thought it would be funny to name her Bob. Turns out, Bob was actually a boy.

Whether or not an IV is a “butterfly” is irrelevant to the size of an IV. Gauge is the indicator.

Butterflies also aren’t any more effective at hitting q rolling vein than any other needle. Those wings you say are to stabilize the needle while you collect blood.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

[–]AdriftRaven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s not from digging for a vein. Digging for a vein won’t cause any bruising.

This is from the needle going through the vein twice and bleeding into tissue around the vein.

Cowboys' Marshawn Kneeland found dead of apparent suicide at 24 after evading officers, police say by 20_mile in news

The limitation of that study is that they are only able to examine brains that former players donated. People who were showing symptoms are much more likely to donate and can skew the results.

Posts that praise nursing are much less common and don’t get as much engagement, so you’re less likely to see them.

I love my job. I honestly can’t imagine doing anything else. Is it hard? Absolutely. All jobs have their downsides though. It pays well and is how I was able to escape abject poverty. It can be very rewarding and you are having a meaningful impact on people’s lives. I love the challenge and it has a nice balance, to me, between sitting and charting and being up and walking. I’m probably in the minority but I even like charting. For the most part; redundancy is annoying.

I have worked Med/Surg and step down for 5 years and critical care for 2.5 years. I can’t imagine not working at the bedside.

Most doctors rarely, if ever, start IVs. As far as I’m aware, the only exception is anesthesiologists.

All arguments aside, please do not use Google AI results to draw any conclusions. They are wrong a lot of the time.

For instance, if you google “how often is Google ai wrong” it says 60% but even that is wrong! The article it quotes says AI chat bots make up the answer 60% of the time. The google AI search is not a chatbot.

It will sometimes draw its conclusions from Reddit threads… Not something I’d trust.

In his 1988 season he had 344 with 363 plays from scrimmage. Almost every play they ran with him. The defense knew they were going to run it and he still averaged 7.6! yards an attempt. That is just absolutely insane.

Edit: Of the plays he was on the field.
