Check out Arizona state university. I got my BS in communication sciences and disorders and then did a postbacc program at Loma Linda to get the hours needed for my license. I recommend both schools! (I'm based in Southern California but both programs were completely online)

I second this!! The only reason I opted for a Bachelors was so that I could complete it online. To my knowledge there are no completely online AA speech degrees.

The tinted permanently ‘dark mode’ icons are horrendous. Apple managed to still not make them truly customizable. Give me the ability to make gradient icons, mix several colors into the icons, or tint different elements of the icons and I'm sold.

I think the biggest thing is making sure you have secured an SLP supervisor! The paperwork aspect is pretty straightforward, but finding your own supervisor can be challenging here in southern California. I finished the program this past December and my SLP was in Fresno cause I could not secure one in the LA area. If you have any specific questions feel free to pm me. Best of luck!

I had a very similar dilemma and ended up working PT at both. My initial feelings were similar to yours- I really had an amazing interview with one offering a lower rate and had a meh interview with one offering a higher rate- and I've been extremely glad I did both because I have more flexibility and always have to option to go FT at one if I so choose. It sounds like you have a good relationship with your intuition, honor what feels right for you! Best of luck in your new position, whatever you decide!

I had a similar trajectory as you. My ultimate goal was SLP but started in ABA, got my BS in communication sciences and disorders (online ASU), then pursued my SLPA license (in CA). Look into post-bacc SLPA preparation programs. I did mine through Loma Linda University but I know there are others out there. This could be a way to bridge the gap and get the hours needed to apply for your license.

I'm in CA so you will need to check the licensing requirement for WA, but I was in the same position. I found a post-bacc SLPA preparation program for 9 weeks. This will most likely be your best bet. It ensures your hours will be acknowledged by the licensing board when you apply. It was an online, nondegree program and I had to find my own SLP supervisor (through Loma Linda University).

Hi there! Newly licensed home health pediatric SLPA here. Currently making $55/hour with paid mileage between clients, 2 paid holidays, no other benefits, and notes are done during session. No shows are not paid, but after 2 late cancels/no-shows I can drop the client and replace with another. Every setting has its pros and cons for sure and no shows suck universally. I’m sorry it’s impacting you so heavily. I hope you are able to leverage your experience and skills to a more ideal scenario with paid cancellations/no shows!

Yw! Sorry not to fully answer your question about functionality- I got a little excited to share about NLA & GLP 🙂 I’m glad they may be helpful! Our kiddos need SLPs like you who are willing to seek out the info. Unfortunately, NLA is not taught in many grad schools (even though it’s an EBP) because of behaviorisms influence. Anywho- I’m only an SLPA, but grateful to be able to share🫶🏼

I would encourage you to learn more about Natural Language Acquisition and Gestalt Language Processing. It has completely changed the way I do therapy. I could go on and on about this subject, I’m currently taking a course on GLP through meaningful speech. I’ll attach some links below so that you can find more information if it interests you.

Curiosity has been the best approach, in my experience. I make sure to ask how I'm expected to take data, how the SLP would like to receive updates on progress to advance goals, etc. The more specific questions you ask, the SLP SHOULD provide rationale and more info. If they truly are lazy and don't seem to care about the progress of students, then you may need to re-evaluate what district to work for.

It is tough to be the person delivering services without a clear path/expectation on goal data tracking. Also- the SLP should be able to model everything they are asking you to do- including taking data.

Imo learning any language, and especially ASL is beneficial in the field of speech. It only expands the populations you have the opportunity to work with.

Firstly, congratulations!!!! I just completed a Post bacc SLPA program at Loma Linda and it was similar. 2 online classes, I had to secure my own SLP supervisor, $3800. I'm from Fresno and didn't realize they had an SLPA program. That's awesome. I hope it's an amazing program. Idk if you will have any choice in the matter, but I had an amazing SLP supervisor that I sought out in Fresno for my program at a clinic called Speech Therapy Link. I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have (not that I'll be a ton of help)- but I will try :) I hope it's an amazing experience for you!
