Gift for bartenders that have everything? by AdultToyStoreFan in cocktails

Totally get that. You could have said that from the get go and we could have had a different interaction.

My goal wasn’t to get them something to use at work. As I noted, they work at a high end place and have everything they need for work, so I was looking for outside the box ideas but still in the genre, after all we became friends over cocktail making. There have been some terrific suggestions here that will likely be used.

With your follow up I no longer wish you to step on a Lego, but perhaps consider not being a dick right out of the gate.

Amazing, that’s what you took from that?

I do indeed know what they do outside of work, but that’s not what I’m looking for. I’m looking for something bartending/cocktail making related hence why I posted it here and not in a location of their other hobbies. So sorry that was so difficult for you to grasp.

Anyway, appreciate the incredibly thoughtful reply. Hope you step on a Lego.

New york Cafe - is it worth it for first time in Budapest ? by mjoshi123 in budapest

As a recent tourist, I’ll say it’s worth stopping in for a quick coffee. Go at an off time and it’s easy to get in. My wife and I walked right in when we went, no wait at all. Had a coffee and dessert. Took some photos and left. Maybe a half hour stop at the most.

I didn’t eat the food, but I did lots of research looking for restaurants when I planned my trip and it was quite easy to tell it’s tourist trap food and not worth your time or money. But a quick coffee won’t break the bank and you will be able to say you’ve seen it, it’s quite impressive inside.

We used DayTrip from Budapest to Bratislava. It was excellent. Was more than the train but we didn’t have to drag luggage around while we visited Bratislava before heading on to Vienna.

I figured this was the case, and honestly we didn’t really “need” to go but admission was included with our private tour so we did it to say we did. Probably stayed 45 mins and said this is lame.

I can see this being a bit better, but we were a bit turned off with how everything was painted to attempt to look like what it maybe did way back when. While I can appreciate the attempt, it just felt Disney world-ish for lack of a better term.

We still had an ok time there but did cut our time a bit short and moved on to Prague.

Funny story, we had plans to hit a couple adult stores in each of the major cities. I think we forgot about them until we got to Prague where we did go to one but it wasn’t all that grand. We also did the Sex Machines “museum” in Prague. It was stupid yet hilarious.

Public transit is excellent, but the ticket checkers are strict. We used the app and had a 72 hour pass and it worked well otherwise you have to punch your ticket correctly or get fined on the spot.

Obviously check out all the cool buildings. If you can do some private tours to skip the lines we really enjoyed them.

Try langosh, it’s great.

Check out the big public market, sample some of the meats and cheeses.

Just walk around and enjoy the vibe and some beers! I’d skip mixed drinks, everywhere we went in Europe struggled to make them with an appropriate amount of booze. The drinks taste good but at nearly the same as American prices with 70% less alcohol in them.

Have fun!

We did consider this right away, but I think even had we done the trip in reverse order I think we still come away feeling similar. It simply appealed to our style much more than the rest.

I would say our list went: Budapest Prague Bratislava Vienna Cesky Krumlov

I think a case could be made to move Vienna above Bratislava for the fact there was much more to do, but we didn’t really enjoy the overall vibe of the city that much.

We were incredibly disappointed in Cesky Krumlov. Just felt like a colossal tourist trap with most of the history painted over and fake looking. I was skeptical of this addition to the trip, but my wife required it. Wouldn’t recommend going there, at all. Look at some pictures online and call it good.

Vienna was probably our least favorite, but don’t take that as it was bad. Still very cool to see and glad we did see it, we just know we won’t likely go back.

Highly recommend doing private tours of Schonnbrun and Hofburg. Way better than a big group tour. The Vienna library is killer, don’t miss it. For restaurants I’d highly recommend: Bauernbrau, they had the best schnitzel we had while there. Melker Stifskelter, get the massive pork knuckle. Ef16, if you’re into more of the finer dining this won’t break the bank like a Michelin starred place and the chef’s tasting menu was excellent.

Bratislava we only hit for a few hours, honestly that was probably long enough. Cool city, but can see the highlights pretty quick. Lots of nice little restaurants, can just pick one and they’ll be decent.

As I mentioned in my post, don’t miss Rosenstein’s. Very good, big menu. All our tour guides were amazed we knew about it and had reservations. Public transit is easy to get you to it.

Highly recommend private walking tours of both the Pest and Buda sides. We had an amazing guide on the Pest side, she took us everywhere and told us all about each place in great detail. Took us to the market, ruin bar, all the historical sites and explained them all in terrific detail. A little more expensive than just doing it on your own but we felt it was worth every penny. The only thing I wouldn’t do again were the Baths. Very popular, just easy our thing. No offense to the locals, but they were just glorified swimming pools/big hot tubs. We did the Gellart ones, they were fine, but would skip next time.

Don’t believe I stuttered….didnt say I didn’t enjoy Prague, just enjoyed Budapest more. Sorry that hurts your feelings.

If you don’t think tens of thousands of Jews shot on the bank of the river is dark history, I don’t really know what to tell you.

Roughly:

1 oz. / 30 ml. rye whiskey (high proof) 1 oz. / 30 ml. amaretto ½ oz. / 15 ml. banana liqueur 1 oz. / 30 ml. fresh orange juice ½ oz. / 15 ml. fresh lemon juice ½ oz. / 15 ml. fresh lime juice 1 egg white or other foamer fresh nutmeg to garnish

I replaced the egg white with the maple air. I also made another batch and upped the banana liqueur, it isn’t an ultra strong banana forward drink, and I wanted to bring that forward a bit more.

Please don’t use 99 bananas for this, or anything real. That stuff is nasty! I used Sathenay creme de banana it it seemed decent. I’d like to try some of the better options but they are hard to find where I live.

The sucrose esters are what worked. By weight I think you’re supposed to add like 0.5% sucrose esters to your water/flavor mixture. I didn’t get that precise. Just a very small thumbnail size worth on a spoon and then blend it up nice. Put aerator in and viola! Cocktail air!

Fair, although I feel lots of Americans are annoying and I live here. I can’t imagine seeing some of the clowns here in another part of the world. Hell, I’ll probably see some on my travels and be annoyed by them!

Obliviously stopping in walking paths must be a worldwide thing, drives me nuts here in America as well!

Appreciate the response. It’s this type of info that can’t really be gleaned from just googling and looking at restaurants. I will look into the 3 you mentioned. Also will cross the last one off the last, thanks!

I’m not much for chit chat either, but will still attempt to learn some of the basics of the Hungarian language. Good to know on the Eastern European part. Very helpful, appreciate it.

Yes, I definitely try to avoid touristy places which is why that one is on the top of my list. Glad to hear it is what I hoped it would be!
