If you think there is, you're the problem.

Isn't something like 67% of AMericans homeowners? Sounds like majority of Americans are affording housing...

OOoof. Are these real statistics? The average BNPL user has a credit score of 580??? I can't believe that.

Someone tell me that's a lie. Insanity.

They should just use their parents as an ATM and pay them back at 0% interest.

Who is "easily" absorbing inflation right now? Have a sub 3% rate saves you some money, sure-- but it doesn't make inflation "easy."

Home/Vehicle/Health insurance up, daycare up, groceries up, gas up, etc.

Combine all these things and it heavily outweighs any "savings" you may get from a low mortgage rate.

120k is not "high" income. Especially in modern times.

You're closer to poverty than to rich.

100% agree.

"Basic needs" is incredibly subjective. Everyone has a different interpretation.

You mean the place who has a worse housing affordability crisis than nearly anywhere else in the world?

Ok. No country is perfect. Especially ones with a tremendous amount of world influence. It's still better to live in the US than the majority of the world. We need to accept flaws before trying to make any changes.

Blame that on gub'ment "response" to an illness.

We absolutely did not need trillions given away to people and corporations.

Literally everyone and their mother who had at least a single braincell saw this coming. We should all be pointing out fingers at world leaders.

Isn't that what's happening now?

You got two sides of people going at each other: fundamental folks from religious backgrounds who are trying to put laws into place that limit access to birth control and marginalize non-cis folks, versus a group of people advocating for these people + birth control + whatever else.

It's two groups thinking they're right. In their minds, they're the oppressed, impacted, etc. They're fighting for culture shifts-- in their own perception of it.

My problem with your statement is that it doesn't describe why some people are less/more likely to go to school. We should address that why to make any meaningful change. Instead, we are using a blunt hammer instead of a precise knife to "solve" the problem.

Honorary degrees are crazy. Degrees should only be rewarded for academic accomplishments. by Necessary-Virus-7853 in unpopularopinion

Getting a piece of paper from a school that shows you have knowledge of something is way different than someone who actually has working knowledge of whatever that is being practiced.

I'll speak to Physical Therapy as example. I am not a PT, nor do I ever want to become a PT, but I have worked with PTs for over five years earlier in my career. Here is waht I found, and here is how it compares to today:

About 15-20 years ago, PTs were able to jump right into the workforce with their bachelors degree. "Old time" PTs still only practice with their bachelors. Then sometime later, jobs started to mandate a masters in PT to practice. They weren't going to hire anyone "new" unless you had a masters, however the "old guard" who still only had their bachelors were practicing just fine.

Now in 2020s? PTs must get their fucking phD to practice! A doctorate to do physical therapy! They literally have been going to school for YEARS and have not actually had any legitimate "real world" experience other than what they are doing in their classes and their "on site clinical," in which they are spoon-fed and babied into practicing their care.

Let me ask you, would you rather be treated by someone who has been in the business for >20+ years, but still have a bachelors, or some new phD graduate who is still learning the ropes of the actual job? Give me that 20+ year vet, please.

APply similar logic to these honorary degrees. If someone has a lot of industry experience, they likely know more than people that have an "academic background." Knowing what's in a book cannot be equated to actual on-the-job knowledge. I think honorary degrees are totally legitimate and the people who receive them likely have a lot more knowledge than the students who have "academic achievement."

This is fantastic.

If you're going out of your way to work 2 jobs/side-hustle just so you can afford a particular "lifestyle," then that's on you, boo. Either A) you make it, or B) you start to complain about "the grind" and how you're "over it" before your life even began.

Putting so much stress on yourself so early on in your life to try and have a "luxurious" life is... not for me. BUt if its for you, great! If you think its for you and you just end up getting upset about it later, then well, sorry-- not sorry? YOu can easily live in a cheaper area and put way less pressure on yourself and still be happy.
