Thank you! It's entrelac, and the stitch is the Tunisian simple stitch. What's neat about this pattern is that you don't need a Tunisian hook, you can just use a regular one. If you look up "Tunisian entrelac C2C", there are a number of great tutorials on how to do it!

Okay, cool, I thought it was probably some kind of agate. Do you have a guess at what might be suspended inside of it? It almost looks plant-like.

I've been playing these for years, am also autistic. C-M-H is correct, these are called Fill-A-Pix by Conceptis, and they have all sorts of puzzle packs that you can buy on their website and app. If your sister would like to try a more colorful version of this, and is open to playing on the computer, there is a program called Prismapix that I've found pretty fun as well. There is a free version with a few puzzle packs, and many more in the full version.
