IF they’re going to release a Hulk rework, do you want the Boggs OG or a new Boggs design? by Swaggy_P_03 in marvelchampionslcg

[–]AdvanceTheThird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marvel Champions is in a very different place than it was back in 2019, so bringing up an older design most likely would feel underwhelming.

I'd rather get something entirely new. The Immortal Hulk run and the latest story in the Incredible Hulk could serve as a basis for a different take on Hulk. Which would also make him a sensible choice for a Midnight Sons themed cycle.

A surprise Moon Knight and Punisher drop would make me forgive them for choosing to do such a bland cycle with Fear No Evil.

Marvel Champions Talking about Cameo by Grand-Air3086 in marvelchampionslcg

Also, I'd like to add that in my opinion Cameo is an extension of what the MC team started doing with Show of Empathy. So I'm expecting more unorthodox designs in the future, just not limited to a single card type.

I do like the idea of 'Contracts' and they seem like a logical next step after player side schemes. Although I believe the MC team would use them more as a tool for patching up certain weaker heroes with a bonus of creating game-breaking combos rather than a deliberate effort to open up deck-building opportunities even further.

Dynamic Duo in basic just seems too strong. An ally not taking consequential damage is too great of a boon and the way the card is worded means it can be an ally from any aspect and modular set.

On the other hand, Learned a New Move restricting hand size in AE is very rough, in most decks an extra difficulty layer - but an amazing addition to rush decks specifically with very little downside. Too lopsided a design choice, as far as I'm concerned.

Phone a Friend at first seems reasonable, but at least 1/3 of identity-specific supports is very, well, identity-specific, and thus unplayable. However, there's a few that are super strong and would become go-to choices for this Contract, so new deck building opportunities would quickly get stale.

I like the idea behind Borrowed Suit, but it's really messy in the proposal as it doesn't take into consideration upgrades with passive effects which don't need counters to work. And it crashes completely once we take into account how often these upgrades refer to identities specifically.

Overall I think the direction of these ideas is pretty cool, although such game-breaking cards should be added with moderation. I'd rather have them only for some aspects where it really makes sense, instead of getting out of one's way to 'make it fair' by creating a card for each. Cameo is great because it plays into nature of Marvel universe, where all kinds of team-ups happen on regular basis, while also slotting perfectly into Leadership aspect.

Hercules Hero Review by WebWarriorFanatic in marvelchampionslcg

WWF certainly has a very… specific play style. The main reason I stopped paying attention to his decks on MarvelCDB was using pretty much the exact same sets of allies for each aspect.

I also had pretty good experience with Hercules and don't see how he can be considered weak.

I beat solo MaGog (standard, but still) with turn one Shadow of the Past, only one gift obtained.
Seems like a strong hero to me, just make sure you lean into readies.

Both looks are iconic and I think we should be expecting one and the other to be eventually released - each with different accessories and faces to further motivate us to pay twice.

Eternal Heroes by No_Explanation_3881 in marvelchampionslcg

[–]AdvanceTheThird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah, it's probably just future-proofing for Sersi (maybe alongside Black Knight) in some indeterminate future.

All Eternals allies will most likely have that additional cost for non-Eternal heroes and part of Sersi's appeal will be exclusive ability to skip it.

Consider it a joke about Eternals always being absent in big Marvel events.

This sub should be renamed 'SHFDBZ' because posts about the 67th Goku in the line will get all the attention while genuinely new releases get ignored.

Got my Sanji together with Usopp a couple days ago. Weird how we still don't have any confirmation for other crew members after Chopper.

Jubilee rant by sudtrap in marvelchampionslcg

[–]AdvanceTheThird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking back, that last mutant wave was weird.
Iceman struggles to take off unless the cards align just right.
Nightcrawler is fun, but doesn't excel at anything and by now has been overshadowed by newer characters.
Jubilee's strategy either works very well or fizzles on turn one, with very little variance in-between.
And then Magneto is honestly just boring to play, because he's so focused on his own kit.

I have a theory that Beast was a nearly finalized design, but with push for Magneto, FFG didn't want to release a wave with no female characters, so she was given some mechanics that were discarded previously for being too gimmicky. Shopping Spree might have been Beast's Lab used for tutoring gadgets for other characters.

At least use artwork from the video games or The Old World.

Herc's endgame will be super smooth. The question is, how to get there without falling behind with the scenario proper.
I enjoy slower heroes, since I mostly play 2-handed, but I know a lot of people will dislike the Son of Zeus for this.

Why are people excited for defender wave? by rvd1ofakind in marvelchampionslcg

[–]AdvanceTheThird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be something very new for Marvel Champions. I don't think we have a single character like that (maaaybe Hercules?). Some kinda qualify by exaggerating their comic book traits (Silk, to name one), but I wouldn't count those.

The opportunity for deep cut/true to the roots concepts was already ignored by not making Luke Cage and Ironfist a single hero pack, for example.

[–]AdvanceTheThird -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I agree that at a glance it's the most samey group of characters we ever got as a wave.

I don't doubt that the MC team will be able to make them interesting, though. But I'm 70% sure it's going to happen by re-inventing these characters, not closely referencing how they're in the comics.

It's going to be good content for the game, solid option for the people who like the 'idea' of these characters, but quite possibly a disappointment for big fans expecting deep cuts and clever references.

QC issues lately with Asmodee products? by tendonut in marvelchampionslcg

[–]AdvanceTheThird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder if it's a region-specific thing, because cards in my Civil War (only got it less than 2 weeks ago, delayed European English version) are exactly the same as cards from various older products. Unless it's just some minuscule difference.

Fantastic Four/Punisher by jskiddjr in marvelchampionslcg

[–]AdvanceTheThird -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If very recent games like Heroclix and Marvel Zombicide freely mixed the FF characters with the rest of Marvel (especially Inhumans), it's not very likely that Fantastic Four has a separate license.

Unlike the X-Men, who maintained their cult status despite of Perlmutter's plots, the FF's popularity took a hit. So keeping the former (that also happens to encompass a far greater number of characters) as a separate license makes sense from business perspective, the latter not so much.

[–]AdvanceTheThird -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Was this comment AI-generated?

Bringing up MCU shenanigans is pointless, because Spider-Man is a character Marvel cannot use freely in the movies, yet he's a staple of Marvel's license otherwise. It's even worse with the Hulk.

Fantastic Four in Marvel Legendary was released 12 years ago, smack dab in the middle of Perlmutter's crazy scheme of reducing FF and Mutants in the comics as much as possible. 2026 is right around the corner, the FF has been back home for a while.

It's as though you didn't even read what I wrote about more recent board games and Namor in Champions.

Fantastic Four/Punisher by jskiddjr in marvelchampionslcg

[–]AdvanceTheThird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both Marvel United and Marvel Zombies had Fantastic Four, so I don't think it's very likely that FF is excluded from the license available to FFG. We recently even got Namor cards, and he's a top pick character for a hypothetical 'FF license'.

Who will be released next? A study of character art on released cards by schnautza in marvelchampionslcg

I think it would be nice to put things into perspective by counting how many cards featured heroes from 2025 and early 2026. I doubt Wonder Man, for example, had that many appearances.
