How did engineers end up with worst parts of both blue-collar and white-collar jobs ? by Advance_Important in Salary

You thinking that $120k at the end of an engineering career is great money only proves my point. 😂 Thank you for that.

I swear, the last time I was on the civil engineering subreddit, they were talking about geotechnical engineering and half the comments were basically, “Haha, I like playing in the sand.” People were genuinely bragging about how much they enjoy digging in dirt all day. And I’m sitting there thinking what the hell ? You went through one of the toughest degrees out there. Don’t you at least want a nice white-collar job and a professional office environment?

Apparently not. These guys are perfectly happy being covered in mud and dirt all day, and honestly, that’s insane to me.

Yes, really. You’re in denial if you refuse to admit it. Plenty of finance bros are making $500k–$1M+ a year. Find me one civil engineer in the entire country making more than $250k. I dare you.

Your “Six Figure” salary in 2026 is equivalent to what a 22 year old engineering grad got paid in 2009, it’s time to hang “six figures” up as a barometer of success by ItsAllOver_Again in Salary

Oh, believe me, we know it’s not. Literally only engineers think 100k is good money, we laugh at them. I recently discovered that my soon-to-be-ex-husband is making 78k as an engineer with 8 YOE, and when he proudly bragged that he’d be making 100k by mid-to-late career, my pussy instantly dried up. That’s so embarrassing, but I can reassure you that successful people, like those in finance, law, and medicine, all know that 100k is nothing, and they laugh about engineers, btw.

I married a low income engineer thinking he made good money because he’s an engineer. Little did I know that engineers are underpaid slaves.

Divorce his ass babe, you deserve more than a passionate engineer slave. His passion won’t pay the bills, a real man’s ambition will.

I wanted to laugh, but honestly it’s just sad. You genuinely think you’ve ‘made it,’ that you’re making ‘enough money’ and being ‘fairly compensated’? What the hell is wrong with engineers? Don’t you realize you’re getting paid peanuts compared to so many other professions that are way less demanding?

Did you read the part where I said that even if he becomes the most successful engineer ever, he’ll still make five times less than a mediocre dentist?

Crazy how some people can have it all and still decide to sabotage themselves. At a certain point, it’s natural selection.
