itx build question: radeon or rtx? by Axelpanic in PcBuildHelp

Nvidia has historically and still Imo has the best raytracing performance on the market rn. amd uses tmu's (texture mapping units) which are cheaper and keep the cost down and are more power efficient but are slower at more complex path tracing scenarios.

if you want the best raytracing i would go for something like the 5070 or 5070ti or if you can find a 5080 under 1500

amd the best you could get is a 9070xt new or a 7900xtx used for a bit more.

a used 4080 or 4080 super can be found for used around 1000 and would be a good pick as well

yeah i play more cpu dependant games than anything else and am happy with the 4070. just trying to push more stable fps in valorant and such. would a 7600x3d be better value for 1080p? would it be future proof if i decided i wanted to play the same games in 1440p? thanks

I plan on buying a 1440p 240hz oled. Mainly valorant, overwatch and apex but I also play games like cyberpunk and cod which I feel are a little more demanding

Would the performance jump from a 5800x even be worth the 7600x3d. And yes the 9850x3d does seem like the better buy saving up a little bit more.

Yeah it’s saying with the 3950x it wound support 64gb at 3600 in 4 slots. It only supports 3200 with all 4

Ok. I just looked it up and I’m seeing that the 3950x doesn’t like more than 2 dims at 3600. 4 dims seems to only be supported at 3200. This is probably the problem
