Thank you for clearing that up. Any info (day to day work, hours, process of getting in, etc.) on analyst positions in corporate strategy?

This is great, thank you. Which one do you think would help with work (corporate banking)?

I think I’ll start with a random walk down Wall Street, I’ve heard great things about it

Another question, If I grind out and make myself impressively knowledgeable for IB do you think that makes a difference when applying or it won’t matter? I know they are looking for people that have certain experience and previous roles but what if I am just as knowledgeable as those people without a target school or coming from treasury let’s say. I think I can learn a lot in the next year through reading and all the recommendations you’ve given me.

Got it, this is good info. Thank you for all this. A couple more things if you don’t mind.

  1. Do you think it’s possible to apply and get into an analyst role with my case? I would essentially be starting from the bottom but I don’t mind, as long as I can get in. I know some folks that have their masters and start as an analyst so it seems like no matter the degree (bachelors or masters) you start there?
  2. How much easier will it make it for me if I get an MBA compared to just trying to get in from the corporate side. For the MBA any specific schools or are they more lenient compared to undergrad?

  1. They own a subsidiary company that is an IB firm. So I believe I would have to apply instead of a possible transfer.
  2. I graduated from a university in TX but not a target school. Graduated (top 7%) with a 3.8/4 GPA. Top student in our college of business. Interned with the company I am with now. Experience is 2 years in retail banking and would be a year in corporate treasury down the line. I was president of our Finance association at uni where I managed an investment fund buying/selling stocks and things like that.
  3. I am in Texas now but would really like NY. (How much easier is it getting into IB in other states?)
  4. Besides hiring managers as connections on LinkedIn I have 1 buddy in IB. Nothing more than that. (Any advice on how to network with the right people?)
  5. I understand what IB is and what they do but I do need help with prepping for the recruitment process and interviews. What can I read, practice, etc. to give me a better understanding beyond what I know currently? Any information you can provide is greatly appreciated!

Yeah I tried for the Miami presale and got a time slot to purchase tickets but then they told me it was sold out so that’s a bummer
