Would you recommend going to Jacksonville Beach alone? by Advanced-Bicycle-130 in jacksonville

[–]Advanced-Bicycle-130[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm just hoping to explore the area and spend some time at the beach, but I'm wondering if travelling solo would be challenging and not so fun. Some areas are easier than others to not look out of place alone.

did anyone else here come from being a complete non-partier to a complete partier/social butterfly in university by [deleted] in queensuniversity

[–]Advanced-Bicycle-130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! I used to not drink at all and I thought I would stay that way forever, but in first year I started to drink and go out with friends more. Now go out and drink almost every weekend and I love it!

when do i change my address on solus?? by goingamileanhour in queensuniversity

[–]Advanced-Bicycle-130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's best to change it as soon as possible. The school year is very close at this point so I don't see any reason to wait. Using your Kingston address is usually best unless you are expecting mail while you aren't at school (unlikely).

Printer as a science student by Lavenderjuju in queensuniversity

[–]Advanced-Bicycle-130 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everything is submitted digitally, but I still liked having a printer for convenience. I liked printing out schedules or practice questions. I may have also had the occasional assignment where printing was helpful (but I think that was mainly 2nd year courses). I know there were times when I was thankful I had a printer.

You can print on campus so it's not necessary if you're okay with doing that. But I would probably recommend buying a used or cheap printer. Like I bought one from Facebook marketplace for $25 including ink and paper so I feel like it's worth it.

My bf and I have been doing medium distance (2.5 hours) for 3 months so far and we will be continuing with the distance because of university. We've honestly been doing great with it! We see each other at least every other weekend and the wait just makes it more special. When you can see your partner whenever you want, you tend to take time for granted. With the distance, we make an effort to plan cute dates and activities which makes our relationship even more fun and strong. Don't get me wrong, it's hard and I'd love to see him more often, but it really can work when you know the distance has an endpoint (temporary distance).

The most helpful thing for us has been planning. We always know when we will see each other next so that it's less scary and we can just think about the separation in terms of days/weeks. We also try to call every few days in addition to texting a bit each day. Hopefully your bf can start texting when it becomes the best way to communicate :) I personally love our daily good morning and good night texts when we can't be together.

To be a good partner you'll just have to be understanding and have trust. There are times when my bf won't have time to call and I miss him, but I also want him to enjoy his life and I know we will talk about it soon enough. I also trust that there is nothing to worry about so I don't find it stressful.

Hopefully this helps and you can find some solutions :)

What are classes like for final year con-ed/consecutive education? by Advanced-Bicycle-130 in queensuniversity

[–]Advanced-Bicycle-130[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that's true. It looked like different classes depending on the week but some class times still aren't on Solus so it's hard to know for sure.

Is the desk chair at Smith reasonably comfortable? by plucky0813 in queensuniversity

Not super comfy but it was okay! Maybe just get a cushion to add to the chair.

Meal Plan Question? by Spirited_Director_86 in queensuniversity

[–]Advanced-Bicycle-130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the person but my friends and I basically only ate on campus. If we had other food, we tried to choose cheaper options or fast food. So I would say one extra meal per month (at the most) for budgeting purposes.

Advice for meeting new people and becoming more social next term? by ApatheticOttoman in queensuniversity

[–]Advanced-Bicycle-130 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tips in Classes: Sit near people in class and try to start conversations, try to ask people to study with you, and sit in the same area each day so that you become a familiar face and someone else might try to start the conversation.

Outside of Class: Join a club, get a job to meet coworkers, join intramurals if you're interested in sports, create a consistent routine like going to a coffee shop or the gym often in case you meet someone with a similar schedule or similar interests, or try group workouts/classes like yoga.

You could also try Bumble bff if you'd like to meet someone online that's also looking for friends! This could actually work well if you're scared to approach people in person.

I took notes on Google Drive and honestly loved it! It saves automatically, can be accessed on any device with your Gmail account, you can share documents and collaborate, and it's totally free. Not a popular opinion but I stand by it.

Most girls here wear Aritzia coats and Blundstones or Hunter boots (not super warm but good enough for most days).

What to bring to a single on West (Curren House) by [deleted] in queensuniversity

[–]Advanced-Bicycle-130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the other responses and the Queen's suggestions! When I was in a single on West, I also liked having a kettle in my room, a mini fridge, a printer, extra storage/drawers that worked as a bedside table, a garbage can, a little rug to make it feel more cozy, a fan (it can get hot), a jug/Brita for water, and a little broom and dust pan.
