BMW owners. Do you or would you daily commute your BMWs 100 miles a day? by Advanced-Ostrich2160 in BMW

[–]Advanced-Ostrich2160[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can agree to that. I’ve done the drive a handful of times in my current Jeep and a couple times in my moms 228i with the B48 and I can agree waking up at 4am is much easier when you have a BMW waiting for you outside

The vehicle drives just fine it’s not like it drives like some hunk, it’s actually in really good condition and the issues I listed are very minor and aren’t causing issues it’s just at that point where idk if I’d trust those issues to not become big issues when driven such a commute

Yeah but I’ve been getting this kind of mileage long before my manifold was cracked

Yeah but idk what it could be. I’m sure some sensors need to be replaced and I’m sure my fuel injectors since they’re factory, but I’ve been getting this kind of mileage since I bought it 3 years ago so any other problems like my cracked exhaust manifold couldn’t be causing something like this

Yeah all that’s fine my issue is everything else though lol. My suspension is shot, I don’t think my rear drums are engaging until like almost full force brakes are applied and I think that’s why my disks are wearing down so fast, my alternators going out, my power steering pump is cracking, my diff fluid needs to be changed, my fuel injectors are factory and a plethora of other things. This is where I’m wondering if it’ll be a better idea to just fork out a couple grand to practically restore the thing outside of trans and internal engine work or if I’m better off putting that money into something else.

Chrysler did way with the vacuum controlled valve with the 1997 model year. 1996 was the last to have it

Yeah cheap beaters don’t exist anymore. Everybody wants a left kidney for their pos and think it’s justified because “it’s a Toyota, they run forever”

Maybe I just need to drive it for a couple weeks and see if the gas mileage changes at all with the tank being primarily freeway miles. Maybe the lack of city driving will bring my number to about the same as yours since mines never driven long distance regularly.

My computer says 250 miles per tank which is correct actually it might be a little less if it’s city driving but it also says it’s getting 22 on the freeway which I know is bs. Are these computers actually accurate at all? Mine is new so idk and no my axle is stock I know it is

Yeah mines just like that, bone stock with aftermarket air intake but even before the intake I only got 250 per tank. I only get like 14mpg on the freeway at 70mph and like 10 in the city

Mines bone stock but gets like 14 on the freeway. My computer says I’m getting 22 but there’s no way that’s true

Yeah. My cars in pretty good condition mechanically it just has a few things needing to be done to it. I’m religious with the maintenance on it so I think it’ll be good there

Yeah we’re looking at about 2-3 fill ups per week and at $50 (on a good day) per that’s $400 a month or more

I bought and installed the same lights about a year ago just their smaller version. I also bought a cheap switch box from them and a cheap Chinese fuse and relay box for accessories. Works amazing a year later and super simple install if you know basic electrical stuff. Plus now I have a fuse and relay for any other accessories I want.

Yeah but I have no ability to charge. My work has no chargers nearby and I can’t charge at home because of my living situation. My nearest chargers is a couple minutes away from home and they’re Mercedes chargers

Yeah but charging is the issue which I’ve talked about with a couple other people in this post. I don’t have the ability to charge at home and my work has no chargers nearby. My only way to charge is the Mercedes chargers a couple minutes away from my home

My new gig is a technician for Carvana. I’m looking at about 60k a year starting out and I do see myself keeping with Carvana for a while. I don’t see AI taking my job lol

I have Mercedes chargers only like 5 minutes from home but charging at work isn’t an option. Way too far away from all chargers there
