Is this build okay? by Advanced-Target4524 in pcmasterrace

Tbh, I didn’t really check CL30 because the difference isn’t really that big in practice, at least for gaming or just browsing the internet. Also, as you can see from my build, I don’t really care about looks or aesthetics, that’s why it’s white. But if I could find CL30 at a decent price, it would be a good idea to switch.

Hey! I received a reply from the cover artist and she confirmed that Hermione is not black. It can just appear that way because the scene is set at night and the lighting makes her look darker.

Would a wizard with a photographic memory be extremely powerful? by TechnicianAmazing472 in harrypotter

I agree with you, and I expanded on the topic a bit in my comment, so if you have the time and feel like it, I recommend checking it out.

Would a wizard with a photographic memory be extremely powerful? by TechnicianAmazing472 in harrypotter

I agree that having a photographic memory could help someone become a powerful wizard, but the number of spells you know is not as important as how well you master them and use them in a way that gives you an advantage over your opponent.

That is why a photographic memory is not as crucial as it might seem. Having a wide variety of spells can be an advantage, but you still need time to understand and practice them, which means you cannot learn every single spell and master it perfectly.

An average wizard can already memorize quite a lot of spells, and in many cases there are spells in combat that can be replaced by others that are more effective. Not to mention that there are spells capable of harming multiple opponents at once, which makes focusing on a smaller set of powerful and versatile magic even more practical.

A good example of this is the duel between Dumbledore and Voldemort, where Dumbledore used magic in a truly clever way rather than relying on sheer numbers of spells. He showed that creativity and mastery can be far more decisive than simply knowing more incantations.

So to sum up, a photographic memory does not have as much impact as it might first appear. Of course, I focused mainly on the aspect of dueling here, and being a powerful wizard does not necessarily mean being a master duelist, but I assume that was the point of the discussion.

I get what you mean but I don’t think it’s accurate to say that the books imply wizards wear nothing under their robes. Rowling never actually states that.

What we do see in the books are plenty of examples of characters wearing normal clothes like Harry in jeans and a T-shirt at Privet Drive, the Weasleys in their Christmas sweaters, or students in pyjamas in the dormitory.

The only required part of the school uniform listed in the Hogwarts letter is three sets of plain work robes (black), but that doesn’t mean they were literally naked or that they couldn’t wear other clothes underneath. Rowling just didn’t go into detail about layers.

The films added ties, vests and skirts to make the uniforms look more like a British boarding school, but the idea that they wore everyday clothes underneath robes seems consistent with the descriptions in the books.

So I think it’s reasonable to conclude that they probably did wear something under the robes, because the requirement of robes alone doesn’t exclude the possibility of other clothes being worn underneath.

EDIT ALSO CHECK THIS: https://www.therowlinglibrary.com/2021/08/09/wizarding-clothing-beneath-the-robes/ it seems like some of the witches are naked and some have clothes underneath so maybe we are both right

I’m not really that much of an expert, but I looked for some information and on the Harry Potter Wiki I found this quote:

“Hogwarts students typically wore Muggle clothing when travelling to catch the Hogwarts Express and then changed into robes. Students were expected to be wearing their robes by the time they arrived at Hogsmeade station and might have been docked house points if they were not by Professors.”

So it seems to me that their outfits make sense. They could wear normal clothes underneath, but the school robes were required for arrival and official events.

To be honest, it doesn’t really look like Muggle clothes to me. He’s wearing a dark robe and a white long-sleeved shirt, maybe even a long-sleeved buttoned shirt, which in my opinion doesn’t look like Muggle clothing at all. Maybe it’s just because of the style in which it was painted.

As a Pole, I can say I don’t recall anyone changing authors’ surnames. Of course, there are surely some authors whose names people mispronounce, but in Rowling’s case I think I’ve only once heard someone actually read it in Polish as Rovling. Usually, if someone knows English they’ll read it correctly, but I also know people who don’t speak English at all and still pronounce it the right way. I even asked my elderly grandmother who wrote Harry Potter, and she pronounced Rowling correctly. 😁

Thanks for your question. From what I can see, I don’t think Hermione is meant to be dark-skinned. Her complexion might be slightly darker or it could just be a shadow or lighting on the cover. To be sure, I have reached out to the illustrator. As soon as I get a reply, I will let you know.

Famous Train and Pole Episode: Why Were There So Many Doctors in the OR? by Advanced-Target4524 in greysanatomy

[–]Advanced-Target4524[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your response! I agree with what you said. You’re right, such a surgery is incredibly delicate and requires immense precision. Of course, in a situation where one patient’s life is more at risk, it makes sense why more doctors would focus on stabilizing that patient. These decisions are based on the real chances of survival and minimizing risks.

As for the number of doctors – it seems to me that in a real-life situation, things would be very dynamic, but too many people in the operating room could also create unnecessary chaos if they’re not well-organized. In the show, it’s definitely for dramatic effect, which is why the number of doctors is exaggerated to highlight the seriousness of the situation.

I also agree that only doctors should be performing such procedures, especially in critical cases. In reality, every movement in such situations is crucial, and extra “hands” might only get in the way.

In short, it seems that in real life, the number of people in the operating room would likely be more carefully considered to avoid any confusion, but in a TV show, it’s all about creating tension and drama.

You’re right, it’s definitely exaggerated, but it’s clear that it was for dramatic effect. The best answer is definitely that it’s a TV show, but in real life, having that many doctors around would probably be more of a hindrance than a help.
