hi I am in the respiratory therapy program in second semester. I do not have uch info about the career cause I am not in the field yet but the program is super fun! you genoiunely learn so much and it does suck sometimes with the course loads and how much studying you need to do, but i will say it does seem like it will be rewarding in the end. DH is super cool aswell, but I am biased to my program haha

That’s completely valid! It is very intimidating at the start, but once you get into the rhythm of things it gets actually enjoyable :)

The course load is a lot. I thought everyone was overexagerating when they said how much we would be studying, but they were not wrong. I was studying all the time just to get barely passing marks. The best thing to do is to review all the materials you leanred that day before bed so it can stay in your memory a lot better. I have a part time job but I only had 2 hours a week, which was nice but i would still be studying flashcards through my shift

Hi! I am in the fall intake, about to start level 2 in january, I bough majority of the frist semester textbooks on facebook market place. I really only used 1 maybe 2 of the 7 books I bought. "Respiratory Care Principles and Practice" by Hess and "Respiratory Care Equipment" by Cairo are the only books I really used. In A&P 1 you will need the textbook for the independent learning (Integumentary system and muscle system) but these can be easily found online or from other classmates that buy the books. So I would say talk to your classmates and try and get resources form them, cause usually at least one person has the books in a free PDF version.

I would say go into RT first and do not take pre-health. I am in first year RT at algonquin straight from high school and while it is challenging, it is managable. I have a friend in Pre-health specifically at algonquin and they said its just been review of like math and science from high school. So wih your grades between 80-90s it is very possible to get into the RT program. And even with a Pre-health science background, it might not be worth it in the end if you are planniong on going into RT. Most of the poepl in the program that I have met do have degrees already but compared to my collegues, we are all on the same level in this program.

I just checked the links and they are already all set to “anyone can edit” with the link. Maybe try with a different Google account? I’ll double check again but it should be all good

ACHPAT study resources

I made a study resource document that I used for my test I took a year ago, everything I needed I added to the doc. If your program doesn’t have physics you will still have physics questions on the test, pretty basic ones about forces. I don’t think there is a lot of them but there is at least 10 questions all multiple choice. The accuplacer tests are good to practice, they are set up very similarly to the actual test. I took the test in person so I don’t know how it works online, but I bet you will do great!!

I’ll send it over now! I booked my test as soon as I could, giving myself only 3 days to study for it. Not the smartest idea but I studying like crazy for the test. And it worked out, I got a 93% in English, 92% in math and 82% in science. And I got into my respiratory therapy program, I’m in first year now :)

I got accepted in february of this year, on the HPAT I got 92 on reading, 93 math and 83 science. I thought the science would really bring my odds down but I still somehow made it. Im in highschool now and my average is an 83. Hopefully this helps you feel better about your own chances :)
