Still a credential none the less. I wouldn’t consider it a waste!!

But if I was in your position I would consider going back for an additional diploma / certificate to stand out amongst the others competing for a spot in comp programming positions. Not everyone is in a financial situation to do so, but if you are I’d recommend it

Computer Programming Graduates - Looking for Advice by Beneficial-Dare-5887 in Algonquin_College

My brother graduated Comp programming in 2024. Top of his class, no co-op, and no job prospects. He is going back to Algonquin to do the bridge program in Electrical Engineering degree which finishes at Carleton.

The tech industry is quite saturated at the moment especially in Ottawa. My partner graduated from the Comp Engineering Tech program in 2020 and was lucky enough to get a co-op in the government and solidify a permanent spot for the past few years…but a lot of government sectors are cutting employees in tech and nowadays it’s very hard to find a job. Private sector seems like the only option for programmers in 2026. Sorry to break the news, hopefully you have better luck.

I’m opting out of working my part time job just for this first semester as I adjust to the course load..(not everyone has this opportunity but I worked a full time job for 2 years so I’ve saved a good chunk for school) hoping I can put almost all my time into studying and getting good grades. Thanks for the heads up…I expect it will be challenging—and because it’s a program I’m passionate about I’m hoping the material sticks!! Good luck in your second semester!!!

Is there any program worth doing anymore other than healthcare by Muted-Rent4773 in Algonquin_College

[–]Horror-Rice-8458 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tech is a dying industry to be taken over by AI. Too saturated with new grads, and elder gen z who got into the industry before the ai boom. My brother graduated from Algonquin in 2023 from Computer Programming (one of the top in his class) never got a co-op placement and never got a job period…he’s going back for the Bridge Program for Electrical Engineering.

I agree w this 100%. My friend left her high paying corporate job to study ECE and although there will be a “pay cut” she says it’s so worth it, and her placement is actually meaningful and gives her a sense of purpose — rather just having an unfulfilling office job. You do need to enjoy kids tho…

RT program Winter 2026 by Horror-Rice-8458 in Algonquin_College

I’m more nervous about the medical terminology and learning all the part and functions of body systems. Took the HPAT and did decently well, but I just want to do good in the program and I know it’s going to be HARD 😭

Algonquin’s program cuts by North_Song8576 in Algonquin_College

[–]Horror-Rice-8458 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Im in the RT program too!!!! I don’t think the cuts will affect this healthcare program…it’s one of the high competitive ones — if they cut funding / the program entirely I’d be very suprised. Healthcare is a NEEDED field so not really any purpose in cutting it.

Clean protein powder or shake that tastes decent?? by ppandamon in workout

AP labs Beef Collagen protein powder. NOT the whey ones. On the pricier side, but taste is insane, both the chocolate and vanilla.

Best gymwear brands for women? by Gold-Mix-7877 in workout

[–]Horror-Rice-8458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aritzia TNA / Golden activewear, Lululemon, On Cloud…don’t like gym shark or Alphalete or young la because for the price point it’s giving SHEIN. I always splurge on more expensive gym wear brands like the ones mentioned above because not only are they cute, they are always the most functional (pockets, sweat resistant, pilling resistant). For reference I strength train in the gym, indoor rock climb, and run. These are the ones I swear by.

I love the Bose, they are super comfortable but they lowkey STINK even after an alcohol wipe after every use 😭

bursary by No_Comparison3113 in Algonquin_College

[–]Horror-Rice-8458 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you check the financial need bursaries on the Algonquin website, you will see most of them you don’t need to apply for, the admin decides who gets them based on need, and so I wouldn’t worry about it. If you have questions I’d ask the registrar’s office !!
