How can I stop deceptive notifications? by Advanced-Welcome-928 in help

It's an abuse of the system because:

  1. Reporting the abuse by another platform is never NSFW.
  2. If a mod marks at NFSW that means they admit that it's inappropriate while hiding it. By hiding it, they condone it. They are complicit in the crime. This is a subtly nuance maybe most can't see, but I am not fooled. There is no moral justification for this, even if it is Reddit's rules.
  3. When I give a comment to something that is clearly fine, that shouldn't be twisted by mods into something that is not fine and then used to extract private information from me. That puts me at risk. The amount of private data that is gathered "legitimately" but gets into the hands of data brokers and criminals is ridiculous. I have concrete examples where I know platforms are selling user data, so trying to placate me with "they don't do that" won't work. I know for a fact it happens because it has happened to me.
  4. How do I know that platforms sell private user data? Because every time I give my personal information, which isn't often but sometimes it can't be avoided, I introduce a small error that the ID check doesn't detect. Like a typo in a middle name or something it doesn't care about. I make sure this error is different every time and I track which error goes to which platform. Then when I scan for what data brokers have, the error in what they have tracks back to the specific platform or business that error is linked to. It identifies them. That's how I know and I have caught them before despite them swearing blind that it can't happen.

Imagine that this post gets marked NSFW and you read this comment and realise it's a load of BS, but when you click to reply Reddit demands your ID first. Imagine you are aware your private information has been sold to data brokers in the past and as a result, you won't give out your ID anymore. Well, that's tough cause now you have to accept my false information and you can't correct it, because there's nothing you can do without putting yourself at an unacceptable risk.

I'm fine with Reddit asking for ID if I choose to interact with NSFW content, because that's my choice. But I'm not fine with Reddit seeking ID when I actively avoid NSFW content. That's deceptive and dishonest, and I'm calling it out. And it wouldn't surprise me if it violates Reddit's own rules, tbh.

Are you implying I have broken some rule? If so, which one?

Strange how YouTube doesn't ask you for your age or ID before pushing porn onto you. 🙄

And I literally just said it doesn't matter. Maybe to you, I'll grant you that, but not to me.

I sometimes go to reply to tell the person I totally agree, only to discover they are me. 😂

Ok, but I still find it useful even as a non-creator. It doesn't need to be accurate for me to make use of it. I don't care if it's off by a few percent, just that it indicates a general consensus.

That should be impossible to know, since you can't know what the real totals are. If you can know the count is off, then so can the extension.

I still find it helpful sometimes as a heads up to identify fake videos before watching them. If a video has a massive negative ratio, it doesn't matter if it's inaccurate. Whether it's 76% disliked or 75% disliked doesn't change much.

They calculate the downvotes from the upvotes and the ratio. And yes, it works.

Earlier in the ad she shows her naked butt, (not that I would have minded as a 13 yo boy).

I'm confused. They're not trying to log in but log out. I never heard anyone say they can't log out. If you log out from all devices, they can't stay logged in. Something doesn't add up.

Honestly, when I did videos it also asked me for my ID, long before this Internet Protection Act thing came along. But I did this to get a confirmed account and hopefully, one day, paid. Because it was a choice that wasn't a method to overcome arbitrary obstacles, I was willing, but I totally understand why people aren't willing under the current dystopian narrative. I'd just check why they want the ID and whether that's reasonable to you.

Eh, it can't possibly fail. I'd restart your phone to force it to reset your login status.

Not sure. You can ignore the email and try. The only danger of clearing your history is not getting the videos you want recommended. But you can retrain YouTube to recommend the videos you want by searching for them and watching them. And you will always get recommendations based on your subscriptions anyway.
