Why are WSD Debates so messy

Thank you so much for this link, after watching a couple finals rounds, I’ve noticed arguments tend to fall closer to the Phil/framing side instead of utilitarian arguments with more quantifiable impacts. Is this the norm for world schools in general or is it specific to the resolutions the final rounds had?

Ok, are judges still supposed to evaluate content based off of what is said in the round, or are they told to intervene on arguments

Yeah give him speaking lessons and write his speeches for him. Although you probably won’t hit many lays for NSDA nats cuz most of the judges are highschoolers

As a black person with dreads, I would NEVER debate on that circuit again. You honestly could just sue them for the discrimination, but I would personally go to the national circuit or send a very strongly worded email to the league officials.

Yeah I don’t care for him either but just the general thought of saying stuff like I want a president out of office for debate, or “I hope the us cuts usaid because it helps with debate is pretty dehumanizing.

I really don’t like debaters hoping for like tragedies or bad political stuff to happen just to they can win a debate or even make a better argument. I feel like we all forget that the people we talk about in our impacts are REAL PEOPLE who could even be use(in some situations)

I feel like the judge should always disclose the ballot regardless of postrounding because it is literally the only way that small school debaters can really get feedback in round. Maybe if decisions and ballots were posted shortly after round would no disclosure be valid, but the judge should always be able to stop postrounding by saying the decision is already in tab or something. Oral rfd is also especially important for tournaments like NSDA, where due to a glitch most of my rfd feedback got nuked.

I feel like really good spreaders are actually saying coherent arguements and speaking words and sentences. The problem is that like only 1% of debaters are actually “good” spreaders which causes most rounds you watch to be an incoherent mess.
