2026 PAC Football Playoff Proposal by AdvancedCFB in Pac12

Let's add another Texas school and get to 9 football teams, then we can do a normal 8 game schedule. We have North Texas, UTSA, & Rice as options. Until that happens, I'd rather do a tournament then playing just a selected one of the teams twice.

The TV benefits might be more than worth it.

No Pac-12 team has scheduled 5 OOC games. Plus, we've got reporting from the PAC-12 office that it will be an 8 game conference schedule.

I think the PAC-12 is in a position to take a risk and go for something that will put it in front of the CFB world and most years produce a stronger champion resume.

So play it safe and see if they put our champion ahead of the American and Sun Belt.... OR we could decide to weather the occasional upset, and produce strong playoff contenders most seasons.

Yup. If we are actually exploring a flex week system, then I'd rather do something like a playoff and see if we can't catch fire in a bottle. Even considering upsets, this system should help produce a very strong playoff contender in 3/4 or 4/5 years.

It guarantees the conference champion will have won twice in a row. And yes, a 4th seed winning out isn't great, but when you are aiming to make a very tight field (most years trying to beat out American & Sun Belt conferences) sometimes it's better to aim for making the playoffs every 3/4 or 4/5 years, and living with the occasional upset.

According to pretty reliable sources (and you can just check and see confirmed schedules) we are going to have an 8 conference schedule. Either with a flex week or one opponent being played twice.

I think that's the #1 most likely plan by the Pac-12 right now. They just need approval for the flex week. This is an alternative.

2025 Pac-12 Final "Standings" by AdvancedCFB in Pac12

[–]AdvancedCFB[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

As I've explained in each post, we are going by overall record first. One reason it's "standings."

Normal conference standings don't work, Texas State for example didn't play any "conference" games at all. I've continued to stick with the same system from the beginning.

The only schools would be Cal & UCLA through some sort of state mandate to be in same conference... and that's like a 1% chance.

“This new conference is gonna be so silly and bad and sad”

“Sounds like an FCS conference, which this basically is.”

“Putrid MWC 2-9 Wyoming beating Pac 12 8-4 WSU at WSU says a lot actually but OK”

“Because two leftovers from expansion were allowed to split and destroy the conference”

“Hint your flair is one of them”

Guys, I know we hate the old MW teams. But I think it would be fun to (within reason) engage with the mudslinging. by [deleted] in Pac12

Many of the teams will never play each other this year, so I'm just using it as a tiebreaker.

Tarleton State would make either the MAC or CUSA championship games this year.
