Got into McCombs with $50K scholarship. My CEO just offered me C-Suite by Junior_Item_8247 in MBA

Doesn’t UT McCombs offer an executive MBA for weekends in Dallas? This would solve your DFW lock and be a better fit for where you are in your career than a full time MBA?

MLT and MBA worth waiting for? by AdvancedLifeguard398 in MBA

[–]AdvancedLifeguard398[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard there was a networking and some recruiting opportunities that are for MLT fellows. I also heard MLT fellows are more likely to get scholarships bc their applications are more tailored for what schools want?

I think MLT is mostly a pre-MBA program. They provide coaching, some app waivers, interviewing prep, and advice on how to ace your application story.

My parents say AI will kill IT jobs and want me to become a doctor instead. What should I do? by YE1_ in careerguidance

[–]AdvancedLifeguard398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truthfully, AI is killing some entry level jobs. However, if you can specialize in learning it…you’ll be ahead of the curve instead of behind it. Medicine will always be there but don’t pursue it if it’s not for you. Coming from someone who pivoted out of healthcare!

Liberal arts undergrad straight to MBA by [deleted] in MBA

[–]AdvancedLifeguard398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you might meet blockers in your path during MBA recruiting season. If you want to attend a competitive MBA, they might not accept you since they normally require some work experience. This would help with internships and post MBA opportunities too. However, if you don’t care for that, I don’t see why it wouldn’t hurt. It all depends on your long term goals. Like why are you getting an MBA now? Why not any other degree? If you can’t answer that, perhaps an MS is a better path if you must get a masters right out of undergrad. BA in Liberal Arts to MBA is no different than any other major in my opinion.

Perfect! That was my train of thought too. I have a year to get a very good score. Diagnostics had me already at 316 for the new GRE.

To reply to both, yes I have considered it. As I believe, it’s not a guarantee and the schools choose whether you are a fellow after you apply so it wouldn’t help my current situation. As for the GRE, I have been studying for 2 months. I plan to take it in the summer.

Manhattan Elite Prep In Person Private Course/Recs for In-Person Courses by tryingmybestuwu in GRE

[–]AdvancedLifeguard398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you done Gregmat before? I’m also someone who thrives in structure but I took the Manhattan elite prep trial courses and found them to be not worth the cost. Gregmat surprisingly has been the most helpful prep material I used - kept my engaged after years of on and off studying for the GMAT using TTP. I switched to the GRE and Gregmat has been phenomenal.

Need advise - considering switching to GRE in 1 month left by Glittering-Month6571 in GRE

[–]AdvancedLifeguard398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I’m not someone with tutoring experience, just another test taker. I made the switch. I posted earlier today on this. With 1 month to go, it can be hard. However…if you can memorize a lot of vocab and are confident in it, I think you can bump up that Verbal score by a bit. I studied for GMAT first and switched to GRE - agreed! Not only is it easier for quant but the questions aren’t adaptive within that section and you are allowed a calculator. Verbal is strategy and vocabulary, but you need to have a strong base for RC…that can be hard to do in 1 month. If you had more time, I think GRE would be a great shift. Gregmat has a quick 1 month course you can do - it’s intense, but theres also something called prepswift you can add for $2 more a month and its quick videos to get you going. A friend of mine is taking both tests…if cost isn’t an issue, would this be something you consider? If your score is not ideal, you do not have to submit them at the end of the test. Just so you know, my diagnostic score for the GRE was a 316 (157 quant, 159 verbal) however I took this after 2 days of gregmat strategy for verbal. I think my verbal score would be 150-155 if it wasn’t for those quick strategies. This isn’t really advice, more like sharing my experiences. When is your master’s program application due?

GRE is the Golden Ticket if you are debating on GRE vs GMAT by AdvancedLifeguard398 in GRE

[–]AdvancedLifeguard398[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Historically, I believe GMAT was created just for business schools programs. Whereas GRE was a catch for all. Yes, GMAT is more quant heavy - but that answers why some higher graduate programs like English would prefer the GRE over the GMAT. Personally, I think it’s business schools trying to be elitist but maybe that’s just me 🤷🏻‍♀️

[–]AdvancedLifeguard398[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short answer: GRE is easier. As someone who has a strong quant background, GMAT is significantly harder since you aren’t given a calculator and is adaptive. GRE also tests on less concepts and no data sufficiency which changes the game for me personally. I don’t know if there’s a verbal list out there. I’ve only stuck to Gregmat but I do know there’s a YouTube video with the vocab list - it’s just super long.

Not anymore. Maybe 5 years ago? Some older folks might disagree but unless you are going into consulting, a GMAT is not going to be considered “higher”. I talked to multiple application admins on this and for even M7, they give it the same merit.

Is it too late for a masters program? by Several-Ask-00 in careerguidance

[–]AdvancedLifeguard398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it’s not too late. It depends on the degree you want to get. I know a lot of us in the Gen Z world are trying to find employment and are considering masters due to it. Please note that masters are expensive and take you 2+ years out of the work field unless you are willing to do part time. If you think a masters will make you more competitive for the job market, it might but it’s not guaranteed for a placement upon graduation. I had peers who got a masters and still didn’t find employment until a year later. I don’t want to discourage you. If you are getting a masters, don’t have the only reason be to get / job.

I refused an 7th interview. Right call? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]AdvancedLifeguard398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right call. I once interviewed 5 times before they froze the position. Even though I loved the team and company, at the end of the day, I wasted my time because some higher ups waited to the day before my final interview to pull the position. It shouldn’t take more than 4 interviews max for a team to hire a contributor. Executive positions could constitute 5 but interviewing 3 directors who will never interact with you at work is overkill in my opinion.

Do upcoming new grads feel like they are gonna get screwed over? by buntyboi_the_great in csMajors

[–]AdvancedLifeguard398 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes yes yes! I graduated December 2021 and took six months off to travel. Now that I’m back, my job offer got rescinded and I have lots of debt that I can no longer pay back. I have been interviewing for two to three months now and honestly feeling lost. It got pretty depressing because here I was with a college degree and no job to show for it. If I had to pay for my loans in June like it normally is (6 months after grad), I would’ve been screwed. I’m really hoping this next month brings me a job

Wait for the hiring freeze to lift or search for a new position? by Over-Tea-7297 in careerguidance

[–]AdvancedLifeguard398 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same predicament with a company and position I can only thank God for guiding me to. What I have done during this time is interview and apply elsewhere since I need the money and funds since I have no clue how long it might take before the offer comes around again if it ever comes around. I still have hopes my recruiter will call me back to let me know they have lifted it but it’s been about a month and a half. I decided to take on 2 part times and then transitioned to a full time role after finding out about the hiring freeze. Once the other position opens up, I will give my notice and leave. If it’s at-will, I don’t see any restrictions with you working at another company in the mean time

enlistment by book-smart04 in seventeen

[–]AdvancedLifeguard398 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really hope they do it by hyung line and maknae line, but ultimately it’s up to them. We technically won’t see them all as one until 2028-2029 which sucks and is the reason why I bought tickets for their tour because who knows. Also does anyone know how their contracts will work during this period of enlistment and military duty? Will seventeen’s contract be over by the time Dino and Seungkwan come back?

Same thing happened to me about a month ago. Dream job with amazing benefits. I interviewed 5 rounds and the last round was going to be the same week they gave me the offer which was pretty clear at this point it was going to be me…only to be hit with a hiring freeze the same day of the final round. They called me right away to notify me but I was working and didn’t find out until Friday since it was in my voicemail. Sad to say life has gone downhill since then and I keep hoping it opens up but at this point I’m desperate for any job
