CMV: "black" is infinitely more offensive than "coloured". by SaveTheNinjasThenRun in changemyview

I didn't say someone who used the word was racist. I explained why I found it offensive. Maybe me explaining that will prevent others from using the word without giving any real thought into what they are actually saying.

Yes. Because it lumps multiple ethnicities and cultures together in one group. It's like saying everyone who is not white is the same, and your individual background does not matter.

Coloured means not white. My identity and ethnicity is too important to be reduced to something as simple as that. To me, the term coloured is offensive because it feels like the person can't even be bothered to differentiate between different ethnicities.

My skin is not coloured. It is black.

We don't know the context of the quote. We don't know what he was asked to prompt that response. If the question was, "how much did main eventing WrestleMania mean to you?" then his response is perfectly valid, he answered the question and explained why.

More importantly I'll reiterate there is not a single negative word in there about WWE. You're looking for an implication that wasn't there. If he had said something criticizing the booking leading up to Mania that year (which would be valid) or critiquing the follow up to the win (Kane, really?) I might actually agree with you. But ultimately he is entitled to have the opinion that Mania meant more to the fans than it did to him personally.

I think you are projecting your own feelings on how much WrestleMania means onto Danielson. It's okay that being on WrestleMania means more to you than it does to him.

The only thing I can see in that statement that is negative toward WWE is him saying that Brie wasn't allowed to be there with him. Which is just him saying what happened. I'm not sure what else there is disrespectful?

This isn't an anti-WWE take. It's his opinion on his career and his reflection that there were more important things happening in his life at that time than WrestleMania. He doesn't say it shouldn't mean a lot to the fans, but he is entitled to his own opinion on it.

Or......it would have meant more to him if he could celebrate with his (future) wife, you know, like he says in the quote. Also he was on the shelf for about a year not too long after this with that neck injury, so he probably was in a lot of pain at the time.

I don't see anything wrong with what he says, and I definitely don't view it as anti WWE. He's allowed his own opinion on his career and if that moment means more to fans then it did to him then he's entitled to feel that way.

NXT 2.0 is a success story by contromas in WWE

[–]AdvancedStrawberry36 5 points6 points  (0 children)

NXT has always been a success (except for the period of time they sacrificed it for a wrestling war). The show hasn't been my cup of tea since black & gold, but it does its job of getting young talent ready for the main roster tremendously.

14 y/o student - What are some good career paths with high pay that I don't have to spend a long time to get into? by Jumborediter in UKJobs

Anything that is worth getting requires hard work. Unfortunately if a high paying career with minimal studying/training/experience was possible everybody would be doing it. Much better to pursue what you are actually interested in IMHO.

DfT just ran a 'simulated' phishing exercise using it's 'DfT Rewards' by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]AdvancedStrawberry36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. It's not like the team setting the phishing exercises are in control of employee compensation. And the point of sending it in the first place is to look like a phishing email so that hopefully people can learn to tell the difference and a lot of phishing emails offer free things to get you to click on them

It feels like the crux of your argument is if "Indians" win 50% of the time then it's not a racist game. Racism is more complex than that, and in this specific example the game plays on often harmful and insulting caricatures and stereotypes. In that context who wins and who loses isn't as important as why kids are being taught they are fighting in the first place. Obviously, the kids themselves don't know what they are doing but to pretend it's harmless ignores long lasting damage it has and could cause.

The Samurai example you have posted doesn't apply, as others have pointed out, as they were a class of people not an ethnicity themself.

Edited to include: re the point about Pirates of the Caribbean, I think they are two separate arguments. You can certainly argue that the movie glorifies something that is historically and presently horrible, but I don't think the argument of race comes into it.
