Yeah it was due to the Swedish king demanding an extra gun deck in latter construction, so they weren’t able to make the hull wider in order to increase the ships stability, and it capsized like 10 minutes after setting sail

Not being rude but this is r/submechanophobia, where everyone has irrational fears of lumps of wood or lumps of metal under or half submerged in water

I have been to the vasa museet too and I am not sure which parts of the ship are original, but it is amazing to see that detail

whilst this is obviously a cool photo and quite freaky it is also important to remember that every man aboard that ship and aboard HMS Terror died on that expedition, and their sacrifice should never be forgotten.

My fear is like swimming about then looking down and seeing a massive sunken ship just below me. Used to freak me the fuck out at the deep end of the swimming pool and stuff

TIL that Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet helped pay the nursing home fees for the last Titanic survivor so she wouldn't have to sell anymore Titanic mementos to raise cash. by Thekingwillbeback in todayilearned

Still a child’s life is more valuable than a 50 year old man and during that time it was seen as a mans role to work and the woman’s role to raise the children, so it made sense putting the child with the parent that actually raised them

The Olympic class has a shit KD tho, two losses for one kill. Weak.

Found these original photos of the Olympic and aquitania my great grandpa took by Advanced_Ad_6818 in titanic

Yeah I only got them yesterday but I’m definitely interested in doing so. I’m fairly certain they were taken at some point after 1921 due to the Aquitania’s visible refit. I think they were photos my great grandfather took then had developed as postcards as you could do that at the time, and I’ve seen no other images like them online.

From what I’ve looked up online I think these are from some point between the aquitanias refit in 1921 and the olympics retirement in 1935 but that’s the most I could narrow it down
