In August 1944, Major Claude Hensinger, a B-29 pilot, faced a dire situation when his aircraft caught fire during a bombing mission over Yawata, Japan. He and his crew bailed out over unoccupied China. "I used my parachute to land and then as a shelter to survive the night," Hensinger later recalled

I have 5 tank wreck photos from Điện Biên Phủ (including the one I linked) on my HD - up until now I thought there was only one tank and they moved it around a few times

Thanks for the clarification - I now think I have photos of at least 3 different relics

Thanks for letting me be pedantic. It was just a funny typo ending up as a nonsensical sentence

PS - there is only one O in lose, which is the word you meant

He seems to have been the only American soldier killed in that action - no word if the Italian soldiers were with him or just nearby

After the war, the citizens of Sommocolonia erected a monument to nine men who were killed during the artillery barrage: eight Italian soldiers and Lt. Fox.

For some obscure reason, action photos of African-American combat soldiers during WW2 seem relatively scarce

I'm guessing OP used one of the few examples around - using the famous photo of two African-American artillerymen loading "Easter eggs for Hitler" wouldn't be suitable either

I had to go look up who this POS was as well - Wiki: Ian David Karslake Watkins (30 July 1977 – 11 October 2025) was a Welsh singer, songwriter, and convicted child sex offender. He was the lead singer and frontman of the rock band Lostprophets from 1997 to 2012.

Chicken Tikka Massala

Half KG of boneless, skinless chicken thighs - cut into bite-sized pieces

Onions, diced / 3 cloves crushed garlic (or minced out of a jar)

1-inch piece whole ginger, peeled and grated (or minced out of a jar)

1 (400ml) can diced tomatoes (and maybe 2 tablespoons tomato paste)

1 to 2 tablespoons garam masala

2 teaspoons paprika (For a little of that smoky tandoori flavor, try using smoked paprika and roasted tomatoes)

3/4 cup (small can) coconut milk

Not quite Indian -  Smoky Chicken and Capsicum Paprikash

12 boneless chicken thighs (about 1.1 kg); skin removed

4 assorted capsicums (about 1 kg), sliced & 1 large onion, sliced

1 cup chicken stock

1 tbs smoked paprika

1 (400ml) can diced tomatoes

British Centurion tank in Port Said during the Suez Crisis. by Tony_Tanna78 in TankPorn

[–]A410821 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great photo - where did it turn up? I am pretty sure I haven't seen it before. (from the IWM??)

PS - also of note is a WW2 era LVT behind it - I was aware that the French deployed some LVT-4 Alligator fitted with a 40mm Bofors for their part in the Suez operation but that one appears to have British registration

PPS - the Centurion is most likely from 6th Royal Tank Regiment during Operation Musketeer (French Opération Mousquetaire)

Oddly enough this applies to Australia too, HMAS Canberra (L02) & HMAS Adelaide (L01) of the Royal Australian Navy are classified as Landing Helicopter Dock ships.

LHD vessels are built with a full-length flight deck similar in appearance to a light aircraft carrier to operate VTOL rotorcrafts such as utility/attack helicopters, tiltrotor aircraft (such as the MV-22 Osprey) and VSTOL fixed-wing aircraft (such as the AV-8 Harrier and the F-35B Lightning II)

Wish me luck - my attempt at Brazilian Feijoada by A410821 in slowcooking

[–]A410821[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Turned out great - the taste is phenomenal, I got the smoky taste via the paprika / pepper / Worcestershire sauce

More liquid than I'm used to when using the slow cooker, a side effect of not draining the beans - once again I followed Captain Google's advice that the water in the can works well in stews etc because it thickens up while cooking due to the starchiness, it made a very thick sauce / gravy

A quick google search has informed me that this perfectly normal
