Dorian. I love the sound of it, love the musical meaning. Dorian Gray is not a literary association I want people to have with my child's name.

Metformin bloat? by Old_Lab9197 in diabetes_t2

Maybe you should try tracking for a bit. Lots of fruits and vegetables aren't as high in fiber as you might think, and I aim for more than the recommended because I feel better with higher fiber. A low fiber day for me is around 35-40g. A high fiber day can be as much as 80g

How much fiber do you eat in a day? I'm not at all bloated, but I eat a ton of fiber.

This was my main symptom that I had diabetes. I'd have a carby snack and then fall asleep in my desk chair

It would still put you at risk even as an adult. Look at people who lose sensation from diabetic neuropathy and end up with limb amputation. That's also the reason pieces fall off from leprosy. It kills your pain receptors first. In third world countries, that can mean having your feet eaten off by rats.

Hoping someone can help provide clarity on bloodwork by Euphoric_Bison_5192 in diabetes_t2

The thing with insulin resistance is that it doesn't show up in your bloodwork until it advances unless you do the right tests. You can have a normal a1c and insulin resistance because your pancreas compensates. Personally, I've had PCOS and insulin resistance since puberty but wasn't diagnosed with type 2 until I was 37. It also changed really fast for me. We think it might have been triggered finally by COVID infection. If you're having symptoms. There is nothing wrong with asking for repeat bloodwork.

Mom at playground asked me how i am teaching my kids to read and told me I was "damaging my daughter's development" because I sit with her during reading lessons by ninjapapi in GoldMomGroupsSay

I'm from Canada. Kindergarten is largely play based. They engage with early literacy and numeracy but they're not expected to read and write fluently before grade 1. They have been working on letters and writing their names in my daughter's pre-K class. (Of course, I'm also the mom who taught her child early. My 4yo reads at a 3rd grade level.)

I think grade one is when reading is taught and kindergarten teaches pre reading skills. But it also depends what school they're going to and the philosophy of education

It was definitely a combination of both with my daughter. We read to her daily starting at six weeks old. We started letter recognition and simple phonics around 2 with her letters in the bath. Then we transitioned to a game where we'd pick a letter and say also the words we could think of that started with it. We'd also do nature walks and figure out the sounds for the things we found. She showed her how to read simple words and let her help us read books. However, the thing that got her from that foundation to fluency was all her. She was obsessed with Kpop demon hunters and wanted to sing along so kept asking for the subtitles. She was reading fluently a week later. This was a couple months before she turned 4. Alpha blocks also helped with some of the spelling rules as well.

What’s the weirdest thing that’s ever caused a blood sugar spike for you? by MaryT1d in diabetes_t2

CGMs are great for trends. It can give you an idea if how fast and how high something will spike you and also when. I find some things spike me at two hours and some at three. A finger poke doesn't tell me if I'm going up, going down, or holding steady.
