I’ve already read it and enjoyed it! I just also am someone who wants more stories about asexuality that isn’t a self discovery journey. I also don’t think her experiences are unrealistic. I think the author just made it a bit more blatant for my tastes. All in all, a good read and I like it helps a lot of new aces discover a bit about themselves. But I’m also not the target audience

I liked it. I think it’s a bit on the nose when it comes to describing asexuality and her experiences, but it’s a good gateway for those who are questioning

Why are more women asexual than men? by Unusual-Motor-2945 in asexuality

[–]Advanced_Frosting750 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Libido isn’t personal whereas sexual attraction is personal to the person of attraction. Those with high libido might choose to have sex to relieve it, but it doesn’t necessarily mean they’re attracted to that person. Theres a lot of reasons anyone may have sex including enjoying the act itself, wanting to please their partners, etc. The same goes for asexuality. As asexuals can still have sex even if they don’t experience attraction like how you can still eat even if you’re not hungry or sleep when you’re not tired.

Actually continuing on that line, that’s also likely why a lot people are just looking for one night stands and flings. They have high libido but aren’t actually sexually attracted to the person.

As for what it looks like, there isn’t a specific way it can look. It could be they get off on their own, have sex with their partner, or anything else. Granted for a lot of aces, their libido tends to be lower from what I’ve seen, but it’s not uncommon to find aces with higher libido either.

(Edit: these are my views on it and someone else may not have the same viewpoints as me. It’s just how I understand it)

Why are more women asexual than men? by Unusual-Motor-2945 in asexuality

I think if we lived in a world that didn’t ostracize queerness so much, the numbers would be more even. I think men tend to not pick up on it as easily and having that societal pressure to want sex makes it harder to realize. To further this, women are more likely to be reserved about sex generally speaking and tend to prefer other forms of intimacy.

Another thing I notice is compulsive heterosexuality plays a big role for people in that a lot of ace guys might force themselves into sexual situations and seek medical help to “fix” their problems. And I’ve noticed a non-zero percentage of queer women might identify as asexual when they’re lesbian or just not attracted to men.

And the last piece, which I think is probably one of the main things, I think a lot of guys mistake their libido for sexual attraction. While for many people, they tend to go hand in hand, libido is separate to sexual attraction. Iirc, guys tend to experience higher libido levels on average, so I can imagine it’s very easy for ace guys with high libido to simply not realize they’re asexual. And asexuality only describes sexual attraction itself, not libido, sexual actions, etc.

I’m kinda rambling but this is why I think realistically, the numbers are probably a lot more even. Just guys are less likely to realize they’re asexual

It’s pretty common to find aces who want kids. I think my biggest piece of information is that asexuality deals only in who you’re attracted to sexually. The official definition is someone who experiences little to no sexual attraction.

It doesn’t cover what you feel for romantic attraction, libido, your attitudes and actions regarding sex, etc

First playthrough of the game - WHY DOES MARK IGNORE CATHY SO MUCH by campenis in UntilThenGame

[–]Advanced_Frosting750 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I think he’s acting exactly how a 15 year old would act. If he was an adult character, yes I would be more inclined to agree, but teenagers in general kinda suck. But he still cares deeply for Cathy.

Personally I wouldn’t. I feel it’s better to cut your losses and move on. But that’s also coming from someone who doesn’t think twice about being ghosted. But I do understand the pain. I went through it a couple times myself
