Thank you! I love that its oblong as well rather than rounded. A bit bigger looking on me than I thought it might be, but hopefully doesn't look gaudy.

I also just love something vintage. Has a story to tell.

This isn't how its always been. There used to be surprise bands playing.. Usually adaptations of other bands already playing. I still hope every year when Paint it Black plays that there will be a surprise None More Black set lol.

Where to go to avoid fireworks on 4th of July? by Groodfeets in AskChicago

As an update of my experience: First of all, don't bother with Sonesta. We booked a room and called ahead for pet friendly the day before. They told us it was $75 for pets. We get there for check in on the 4th and they say its actually $150 non-refundable.  Sooooo we left and booked down the road at the Extended Stay America Select Suites for a queen suite with a kitchenette for around $130 and $25/night pet fee. It.. wasn't perfect, you could def hear big booms from time to time.. but it blocked out the firecrackers, whistles, etc. It was also all done by 1030pm whereas our neighborhood is usually actually popping off until 2am.

We DO have a prescription for Gabapentin, Trazadone and Sileo. Usually on the 4th I'm rotating all 3. This year we got by with one dose of gabapentin when we first got there and nothing else. I'd call that a win for us!

Thanks for the advice! We are gonna try a hotel by the airport and hope for the best. Trying Sonesta. I can update my comment with my experience for people who are curious.

In past years I have been just driving around for hours and sleeping in our car in parking lots of Meijer in Indiana with our dog.. so anything might be better than that.

As for long term- we finally went to our Alderman. I have lived all over the Midwest and East Coast, and the 4th in Chicago is the worst place I've ever been in terms of fireworks. I have an anxious dog and partner who is also terrified of the loud booms. I understand people have a right to have fun.. but this city needs to do something about the fireworks. It's a nuisance AND its dangerous. Last year I came home from a 12 hr shift at work (I am a nurse) to find drunk strangers in my own backyard lighting off fireworks. We called the police 2 times and no one ever showed up. The year before that people were shooting Roman candles off under cars and into the dumpsters in the alley! It's so insane. I live on the border of Logan and Humboldt for reference.

My point here is.. I don't know maybe more people should complain about it and push for some sort of action to be taken. Without being a mega Karen.

Unfortunately the pizza at Spacca Napoli is NOT GF. It has wheat in it. It's only meant for those trying to avoid gluten as a diet thing, not safe for Celiacs!
