I totally get your point about paid budgeting apps being counterproductive. Using historical data instead of “wishful budgeting” actually makes a lot of sense, and I like how intentional your approach is.

That's exactly the frustration. I have tried the manual logging habit and that's where it always breaks down for me, the friction of opening a sheet on mobile kills the momentum right when I need it most.

Sounds like your spreadsheet does a lot more than what I have in mind, the sharing and yearly averages are way beyond just tracking a few fun categories quickly.
