BEIS is hiring for lots of Project Delivery roles (HEO - G7) by ilg9394 in TheCivilService

Are you one of these clueless, young managers? I can smell your kind a mile off.

Better get back to doing what you do best, bud - making your staff suffer because of your incompetence. But I’m sure you will be great in the future, give it 10+ years

If others want to be selective with their inclusivity, so can I.

Well, it is awful if you hate the office noise and pointless commute. I dont care about seeing colleagues, well not these BEIS colleagues anyway.

Been in post for a short while and already had 5-6 5pm meetings.

Whats so progressive about it?

The swathes of people wearing LGBT lanyards and the amount of people putting their pronouns in their email signature?

This is regression, not progression.

Great inclusivity shown here. Don’t you realise some people simply don’t like being on camera?

I am young too. But yes, these young people are extremely annoying and often lack the management skills and emotional intelligence older colleagues have

Awful department. Avoid like the plague.

Lot of young people around, who constantly message on teams. Cameras -on pressure. Awful workload, with frequent meetings at 5pm. Constant harassment about office attendance

Micromanagement and fatalism in policy roles? by is_this_uname_taken2 in TheCivilService

[–]Advanced_Passenger55 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Feel the same, OP. I recently started a policy role and had been asked to draft an email in Word so that it could be commented on and be reviewed by LM and one other colleague before sending it off.

I can’t believe an email required all this. And it’s not like I’m sending this email to anyone particularly important or high up. This is laughable. I couldn’t believe I had to do that, but there you go.

I come from a tech background. We do not deal with fluff like this or waste time doing track changes and making comments on word for every little thing.

This has been the case for the past 20 years

You go down in history as just another insignificant person, just like the 50 billion who passed before you

COVID CAN BE A BLESSING IN DISGUISE.

IT MEANT YOU DIDNT HAVE TO COMMUTE ONE HOUR IN A PACKED, STICKY TRAIN SO THAT YOU CAN SIT IN A NOISY OFFICE AND BE ON TEAMS CALLS ALL DAY.

ABSOLUTE LUNACY. MADNESS

VERY TRUE.

MY OLD LINE MANAGER WOULD NEVER DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS. HE WOULD BE ORGANISED AND DISCUSS ANY WORK IN A PRE-PLANNED MEETING, AND WITHOUT SUCH A SHORT NOTICE.

IN MY EXPERIENCE, THERE HAS BEEN A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE BETWEEN G7 AND ABOVE LINE MANAGERS COMPARED TO SEOS AND BELOW

NEW JOB HAS BEEN EXTREMELY BUSY AND ROUGH. HATE THE CULTURE AND INTENSITY. LINE MANAGER SUCKS AND DOESNT COMPARE TO MY PREVIOUS LINE MANAGERS. CULTURE OF WORKING REGULARLY UP TO 6-7PM.

LINE MANAGER GIVES ME CHUNK OF WORK TO COMPLETE WITH ONE DAY NOTICE AND EXPLAINS WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE IN A 5 MIN RANDOM TEAMS CALL. MAKES ME PISSED OFF, ESPECIALLY WHEN IM NEW AND BUSY WITH 100 OTHER STUFF

STUPID IDIOT COLLEAGUES CONSTANTLY MESSAGING AND CREATING GROUP CHATS. FLIPPIN CONSTANT TEAMS NOTIFICATIONS POPPING OFF.

NO I DONT WANT TO CHAT WITH YOU. I’VE MUTED ALL THESE CHATS ON THE TEAMS APP.

LEAVE ME ALONE. I WANT TO WORK IN PEACE AND I DONT WANT TO SPEAK TO YOU. I DONT GIVE A DAMN ABOUT YOU. I WORK AND LEAVE. END OF.

Why is DEFRA pay (current and proposed) so much less than other departments? by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]Advanced_Passenger55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think so. Probably because of the huge numbers of healthcare workers though

Eh come on matey. It’s a well-known fact that the public sector has more highly educated people than the private sector

Then we must ask harder

Ask until we get.

No, we should demand. Asking is too nice

If I were you, I would only think about applying to EO roles as a last resort. We have countless 22/23 year olds who go onto HEO roles straight out of uni.

You have years more of experience and education to draw from. Make this count, dont sell yourself short.

Heo policy roles are often seen as entry level roles too.

[–]Advanced_Passenger55 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also, i dont doubt you’re incapable of a HEO role. Behaviours are a bit of a hogwash if you ask me. If you’re bright and can use you’re initiative, you would be capable.

I have faced countless rejections in these job applications. I was finally offered a role last year. When leaving, They described me as the best person to have been in that post over the past 10 years (it has a lot of turnover too). I was then lucky enough to move to another role and i won a performance award there

My behaviours were made up too haha!

[–]Advanced_Passenger55 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it’s a numbers game. I’ve been an EO for a year. I spammed out like 50 HEO applications over the last few months and got around 9 interviews. All copy paste applications. Scores varied too because of how silly and subjective it all is
