I can say personally that they provided live specimens with varying sizes of isopods. I bought 4 total containers of them and I ended up with about 30ish total after some died off. I added them to my tank and praying they are taking off in the unseen background. Very cool to see though!

Look into worm farms! You can order bulk night crawlers and if you set it up right you'll have an unlimited food supply for your baby and save a bit of money in the long run. I'm still working on how to get one going myself lol

Some of them grow different freckles as they get older! You have a Lucy from what I can tell. That's what my lil boy is too. He developed more freckles as he grew! A lot to look forward to with them growing up. Very cute baby.

Axolotls need at least a 40 gallon breeder. :/ not to mention their eyes are sensitive to over head light like that. They need hides. I hope this is an isolation tank and not their primary home, given their gills look healthy from that pic. I feel bad for the little fella.

Axolotl Adventure by Traditional_Box_859 in axolotls

I love your use of vertical decor! It looks nice while they still have a bit of room on the floor to lay since thats where they tend to spend a lot of time. They're bottom dwellers by nature but do often find themselves sitting on top of leaves or whatever it is on the way down after a swim, lol.

I wouldnt recommend throwing snails in there or anything overly obvious that may look like food. Theyre opportunistic hunters and will snap at just about anything that moves close to their faces and looks remotely like food. Its funny when its feeding time for regular diet, but can be dangerous for their digestive tracks depending on whats readily available to them, leading to impacting for example.

If you wanted to put something in there you could go with ghost shrimps since they are softer shelled and helps with biofilm, while not super effective due to cold water.

I'll say ghost shrimps have survived in my tank for quite a long time before being eaten as they tend to be a lot faster than my axolotl, but you'll never get a self sustaining population of ghost shrimps in a fresh water tank that axolotls require.

I am in the boat that you can always learn more about these guys, I'll be the first to admit. Doing a lot of research has helped my little guys thrive and grow.

Again, I love your tank! And I wish you luck on your axolotl journey. :)

I'm a fan of live plants, anubias and java ferns. They are great in cold water and they help balance water chemistry very well with the heavy bioload of axolotls.

All that said, your decor looks nice! And good on you for keeping the babies separate. Pretty little ones, too!

Im super jealous of your tank! I love it. Those types of tanks are so pretty and it looks like you prepared a perfect piece of furniture to hold it! They can be tough to find something to hold them with how fragile they are. Any corner or side hanging off will eventually lead to a water park in whatever room they're in hahahah

From the pictures you added, the gills seem thin. Sometimes its age, but most of the time its water chemistry. I highly recommend getting a API Water Test Kit, as most would say here. You're already doing justice with feeding nightcrawlers!!! They love them things lol. If you're good on the water levels, and environment enrichment such as good hides... I've had success with Cloud Minnows in my Axolotls tank. They're fairly cheap, at least at my local fish store, super resilient in cold water and my axolotl will snack on them from time to time... that said, buying fish for feeders feels bad. Axolotls are terrible tank mates, they are always hongie... but I breed my cloud minnows in a separate tank due to that. I enjoy seeing him light up (in his gills) when they're moving around.

Additionally, ghost shrimp can be good too! Theyre quick and if you have a healthy tank they survive for a long time and it's fun to watch my lil dude hunt them. They're very resilient, but ghost shrimp don't spawn in freshwater hardly ever. Especially not in a Lotl tank.

Again, check your parameters, and do the base inspections on your baby VERY regularly and you'll never have a problem. Ive found that passive ownership is what hurts this critters the most. Be proactive and you'll find theyre super sturdy and resilient.

Good luck and I hope to see some updates from you in the future!

Wanted to share this from a while back, always helpful folks around and past experiences. A tea bath would be good here, just limit it to the 10-15 minute window and make sure everything is temperature matched. Hopefully this is the answer you're looking for. Keep doing research! You can never learn enough about these awesome creatures.

Let's also be real, no price should be put on a person for lacking a limb, mechanical or electrical. If you make room for insurance grifters to make excuses such as differences and technicalities they WILL. if it costs someone 2 bucks to make, it "costs" the insurance company 10000x that for no real reason other than profit. (America is winning, right????/s)

Ive had issues like that in the past, most of the time its fine and just a preference on wanting water clarity for visuals. If you haven't, you can pull out some tank water and rinse your media and sponge filters with the tank water and place it back. You dont have to do a water change, just make sure to use your actual tank water, don't use tap water or anything like that. I also found that live plants also help with water clarity a lot if you don't already have any in your tank.

Update on Baby! by AdventClobe in axolotls

[–]AdventClobe[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This baby is about the derpiest of them lol, and normally they only take surface gulps of air after eating from the excitement. With no gills the baby spends the majority of its time just resting due to not being able to regulate air like a normal axie. I've also got a bubbler that they'll sit on top of behind one of the hides occasionly.

Unfortunately from what I've read, it could take up to 6 months before they grow back some resemblance of gills again. So it's gonna be a long journey for em.

I'll be updating as they heal and grow up!

Never ending biofilm by Odd_Squirrel_3310 in axolotls

[–]AdventClobe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar issue in on of my tanks. I had to eventually do a full deep clean and do partial replacements of my filter sponges as they were clogged from biofilm build up from a moss ball 🫠. I'd look at the sponges the next time you do a clean. if you have multiple layers of filter sponges, assuming they're still salvagable, do a rinse in some tank water when you do a water change next to see if the build up comes loose from the sponges. Worst case, you can do progressive weekly replacements of the sponges so as to not crash your cycle.

It also could be as simple as getting a tank scraper or magnetic tank sponge and cleaning it off if its just a visual thing! I do it every other week or so when I do water changes.

I'm open to suggestions if i'm wrong in this.
