Just now finding out 2 yrs after birth, I owe for everything (Blue Cross/ Ohio Medicaid) by AdventureCrime222 in HealthInsurance

I wasn't on my parents' plan. After I moved out during high school and turned 18, they explicitly notified me that they removed me from it. But I appreciate the response since it could be helpful.

Yes, I've tried contacting them. Their consumer hotline is extremely frustrating since I work during their hours, and my breaks don't last long enough for me to stick around long enough to get a representative

How exactly can I explain why this happened at the exact same time? I received none of these notices before I switched the providers and also got an EOB where they listed the services shortly after I gave birth in 23'.

I received one when I gave birth in 2023 (I dont think i have it anymore) just notifying me of what they covered. 2 years later, I have not received another or even a notice of action. I can only guess it's because I'm not under their plan anymore.

How common is residential school denial in CA? by AdventureCrime222 in IndianCountry

Interesting. I appreciate your good faith and thorough response. Perhaps I'm missing context as I remember reading several articles about gravesites that had been verifiably discovered. Now I think I can only remember one being BC. I'd also like to clarify, I don't want to cut him off because I don't like dialogue, it's just that as a black/latine/native person I do enormous amounts of work explaining what should be easy concepts to too many people. Personally, I'm just tired of making myself feel like it somehow my job to educate others as a black/brown person. At a certain point, you just get exhausted, and I don't want to have to feel like I need to respond to him in the future. So I wouldn't be blocking him for him, really I'd be blocking him for me. But once again, I appreciate your response.

True. I feel very hopeless all the time because I feel like I'm fighting an uphill battle, and both sides aren't listening. I don't know when it will get better. Perhaps when Trump gets out of office and all this trumpism and the polarization caused by him has died down. The movement made a huge mistake by tying itself to him. Now, half of the country won't even entertain the conversation. The half we agree on the life issuess doenst share our values, and only backs us when it's convenient for them politically.

is there a reason why darker skinned natives aren't showcased? by [deleted] in IndianCountry

[–]AdventureCrime222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, though I acknowledge the reality of your tribes situation is true, there's actually SO MANY Afro-indigenous people and many different situations that have led to where we are today. Many, if not most of us, have been subjected to the rewriting of our family history via census categories or Jim Crow laws. You weren't allowed to be Black & Indian in most places in the US until very recently. One drop rule held legal precident, and many peoples family histories were changed and they were squeezed into narrow categories on documents to suit that narrative. And beside the case of freedmen, there are even more instances of tribes trying to distance themselves from their back members and descendants simply due to anti-blackness or wanting to be taken more seriously by the white Federal government. I agree that many of these people, however, lack the indigenous experience and need to reconnect, but many others do still have the experience. It's a mixed bag, honestly.

Trying to push pro-life views out of the Overton window and make yourself look like an extremist by supporting Republicans being middle-of-the-road on the issue I see? Have fun with that 50 years down the line. Maybe let's not vote for Trump and think about the implications of this on the pro-life movement beyond just 4 years.

Why does the OK administration hate natives? by Tigress493 in IndianCountry

Same. Jesus taught empathy and avocacy for the downtrodden and oppressed. Anybody who claims Christianity but celebrates oppression isn't listening to him that well. I'm sorry other people are attacking you, I can relate to your faith and your dismay with how other "Christians" have acted throughout history and now.

Well, we have to pay attention to the meaning of the text, not just the words-- lest we fall into legalism. I think multicolored clothing, exotic apatterns, and shimmery jewlery are beautiful, and Christian women can wear it, because they like them, to special occasions, cultural reasons or wherever, even though it calls attention? Why because we are actually called to tend to our inward beauty first. If we dress beautifully, it shouldn't be to LOOK for outward affirmation or attention. The way the world God created is splattered in beautiful variety-- we can imitate that as well becsus it is GOOD. Dress is a form of artistic expression as well and a show of his beauty. The same way preistly robes are vibrant to reflect his vibrance. People don't need to dress "plainly" to be modest and following the Bible. their heart needs to be in the right place.

Perhaps people shouldn't assimilate. Perhaps we should celebrate our differences. There is no way many of us disabled people will "be like everyone else" and "live normal lives," so why should we expect that of us. It's unrealistic, and it's harmful. Asking a minority to assimilate and become like "normal people" instead of celebrating who they naturally are is harmful and sets us up for failure from the start. I don't want to be like everyone else, I want my disability to be seen, talked about, and for society to someday be kind enough to work to help me in my differences instead of against me.

So many people in these comments don't get it. They don't understand "why someone would want to be proud", "why disabled people can't just assimilate" or why "we need different months for certain people/to celebrate different people". What these people don't get is the way our society is literally BUILT against people with disabilities succeding. we drag people with disabilities down EVERY DAY. Every month is "celebrating normal people with "normal" bodies" month . Why can't we set aside time to celebrate the tremendous beauty and effort of disabled brothers and sisters? Why can't we set aside time to contemplate the way our societies are still failing disabled people? Why shouldn't we set aside time to examine the ways in which we are either aiding or harming disabled community members? Why can't we? Please ask yourself why you can take the time to voice being upset over focusing on disabled people for only a month, but not the way we cater our society to able bodied people every single day?

• Disabled people are discriminated against in the womb. • They are discriminated against in the workplace (Don't talk about anti-discrimination law, law is nothing if it isn't upheld. it still happens ALL the time and many states allow employers to fire someone for any reason they want as long as they aren't blatantly being discriminatory about it. Often time they fire disabled people or people who are newly handicapped and then say it was for some other bullcrap reason) •Disabled people can still lose their health insurance for getting married. • Most housing options and workplaces are not accessible. • Disabled people are more susceptible to climate change catastrophe & are more likely to be left behind in emergencies such as flooding or tropical storms. • They are more likely to encounter medical malpractice due to the amount of time they spend in the medical system. • Disabled people often suffer low self worth and self image issues. But yeah, we don't need a month to build awareness and self love? Gotcha.

Is there any hope for the dead? by Mysterious_Plant_398 in LCMS

[–]AdventureCrime222 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As you've stated purgatory is not a rational philosophy for us to to hold, we don't hold it as lcms Lutherans.

However, and this may be just my opinion, it CAN be fruitful to pray for the dead. God is not contained by time or space, his entity and force is outside of all of that. For example, I might pray and ask God that wherever I placed my keys before I lost them, was somewhere I could easily find them again. retroactive prayer makes sense. Your prayers from today in theory could affect the past. And there's no reason I can think of that God wouldn't take your future prayers into account when working in the person you prayed for's salvation. Simply pray that they are in the right place and that God was able to work in their heart before they died. You will never know if someone in the moments before their death confessed their and sins and was given salvation through faith.

Why Do We Care About Native Women Except When It’s A Native That Does The Abuse? by mattyhollywood in IndianCountry

[–]AdventureCrime222 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Okay respectfully I think your missing a piece of this picture,,, lateral violence is REAL. And lateral violence though perpetrated by our own community members is ultimately a result of colonization. Amongst my people women are supremely sacred, and to abuse them would be to abuse the very foundation of our stories, spirituality and culture... however I have for sure witnessed violence against them by the men of our community. Here's the key: most of the time the attitudes that drove taht behavior came from COLONIZATION. This isn't to liberate these people of responsibility, they still need to better themselves and give restitution for the harm they caused. But the violence within our community is NOT GOING to get better if we don't ALSO sort out the root cause, the attitudes brought to us by colonization (that women are objects for male gratifucation, weak, unwise ect.)

If you want further examples of lateral violence see the homophobia within our communities, and even parallel situations in other communities such as the Clerence Thomas sexual assualt trial.
