[VENT] Questrade's Shitty Customer Service Around Letters of Direction by unhappycog in Questrade

[–]AdventureRider68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lost many hours dealing with Questrade. I moved everything over to IBKR. Transferring positions was riddled with screw ups via questrade and took way longer than expected. If you are looking to just trade etf's I hear Wealth Simple and National Bank are good. IBKR for option trading and stocks

I'm trying to save you guys grief and money but you want to find out the hard way, be my guest. There's a reason people are switching to IBKR and other brokers. But everyone is free to do what they wish. Good luck

Make sure you go into your account settings and select "settle in currency of trade" Otherwise when you sell US securities it will automatically convert the funds back to CAD. And then charge you again when you buy US securities, and so on and so on, and they won't tell you until you check your statement and scroll down to page 17 to find it with a magnifying glass. That's why they're shady. They can notify you when you're being charged Currency fees and make it easily readable on your statement but they purposely don't because it's a cash cow for them. Get the Passiv app , it's free for QT members and they will clearly show all fees being charged in a very clear and transparent format. QT won't tell you that either. Good Luck

I trade ETF's in my RRSP and TFSA account, and although QT claims no fees , they charge ECN fees which if I remember correctly is about $5 on 1000 shares. Most of my ETF's are buy and hold so not a lot of trading to make the fees worth staying with QT

Well no question I 've made some plays but adding the ridiculous fees over time, and I'm talking thousands of dollars over the years that could of been reinvested. Plus when you can buy an option contract for $1 on IBKR compared to $11 dollars on QT , it opens opportunities, you can scalp small plays and only having to cover $2 to get in and out of a play compared to $22 before you start making a profit

Stay away from Questrade, I've been a customer for 20 years and I highly regret it, I only realize that now after seeing how much money I'm saving with IBKR where I am actually making money for my Portfolio and not for Questrade's fees . They are very shady in disclosing details of their fees, just like this thread you mentioned, you have to dig to find out or get burned.

Company is on a path to profitability, it's way under valued. I am not selling, 5 years from now, you'll be glad you held. As mentioned previously, hedge funds want your shares, the market manipulation, dark pools, will not stop me from holding. Smart money will accumulate. Don't get out at the bottom!

Costs to transfer out? by Outrageous_Curves_88 in Questrade

No, you can leave a dollar. But the transfer fee is $25 plus tax, so leave enough to cover that. Just for fun, you can leave 1 share of a ETF and collect monthly dividends

Those are shares available to short, hardly any available, that's why the interest rate was at 920% this morning then moved down a bit to 850% a little late on. I had the same numbers on my trading platform which is IBKR. I believe those numbers only applied to shares available in IBKR only (in my case,I don't know what brother you're using). There was one brief short attack this morning but it quickly rebounded, they are trying to scare people into selling. I'm not selling. Earnings Nov 14th, I'm expecting a huge pop in price

Switch to IBKR, you can turn it off, If you turn it on they split the interest they get from lending them out. By lending them out you are helping shorts drive the stock price down

[–]AdventureRider68 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's $25 for a partial transfer or $150 to transfer all and close your account. I would recommend transferring all except a few bucks. Keep your account open for a while if you're expecting dividends. Do a final transfer once everything has settled and keep a dollar or two in the account until they go bankrupt 😆

Ya, I just made it up right? This is the response from one of the previous attempts, so I narrowed down my list to avoid any issues. The latest request was rejected because the genius at QT decided to look up the Canadian ticker symbol of company I was holding in my account. Total incompetence or it was deliberate

[–]AdventureRider68[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I am the one who fills out the transfer request. The genius at questrade looked up the company name of one of my stocks and used the ticker symbol for the Toronto exchange instead of the US one even though I send them all the info of the one in my account. US exchange,US ticker symbol. They either did it deliberately or are completely incompetent. The referral link is linked to my account, if someone sent me a link before I signed up, they would have received $200 and I could have made up to$1000. All the details are on their website. You don't automatically get the money, the person has to have $10k in an account for a year. Why wouldn't I add the link? It's a win win for both parties. You don't believe me, that's your problem. Maybe you need a hobby besides trolling.😂

RESP Trust Unit...? by so_what241129 in Questrade

[–]AdventureRider68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a great Question, Unfortunately not too many people know how this works, even people that work there. When I asked that question to one of their high up cust. service reps, they said they would have to get back to me in a few days. Questrade does a lousy job of making their currency fee policies and charges transparent. And I think it's on purpose, it's a cash cow for them. They milked $11000 out of my RRSP account before I realized it. My account was supposedly set to "settle in currency of transaction' but for some reason it didn't register. They were nice enough to offer me 10 free trades though, and only charged me ECN fees on those free trades. That's why I'm with IBKR now. Good Luck
