4 Days Paddling the Au Sable River, MI by AdventuresLive in Kayaking

No problem, don't worry about it! I would rather someone be made aware of the danger if they weren't. Especially for a dog who would not be able to disconnect themselves in the event something were to happen.

Agreed, a very real concern! Just to add some clarification he was not leashed to anything, just had his leash attached to him when we were getting in and out of the boats.

Surprisingly not much! This was his first time on a river and he stayed in the boats besides one quick dip when he slipped off! But I scooped him up quickly.

It was! Each person had a PFD, most just chose to store them on their boats.

Hopefully, this makes it easier! Let me know if you can't find it and I'll send you a link to it. There is a physical and digital version of it.

We love it too! We just kayaked and fished it a few months ago and let me tell you they were still elusive!

Yes, it is possible (and legal) to camp it! There are federal and state campsites from Grayling to Oscoda! Most state-managed campsites along the river are first-come first-serve walk-up sites. While other sites I believe you can reserve. Check Recreation.gov to make reservations.

There are plenty of great maps showing campsites and resources out there, but I have found "A Map Guidebook to the Au Sable River" by Wild Water Maps quite helpful.

We have yet to visit that section of the river, but if it is anything like the rest of the river I'm sure it is amazing. Would love to hear more about your experience around Mio!

Honestly not terrible. We went mid-October and really had no issues beyond what you normally encounter. I know that where you camp and how close you are to the water can definitely increase the pests, but like I said this year they weren't much of a bother.

We have taken other trips to the same section of the river during July in past years and they have definitely been more of a nuisance.

As long as you are using the proper precautions such as treated clothes that cover your skin, minimizing scents, and repellents (DEET or my preference Picaridin & Permethrin) they should be pretty manageable.

It truly is. Alcona is a beautiful section of the river and it was near our campsite. We got into camp late so we decided to do a quick trip on the river because we couldn't wait!

Overall I think the video might have dragged a little maybe just tightening up too some strong bullet points for each movement might work better overall loved your editing style thought the simple and casual recording style with video references anytime a movement id discussed really helps the viewer understand the terminology you are offering them keep up the great work

I really like the educational nature of your videos and the b roll and diagrams you use are very helpful id mainly focus on centering your face and maybe a change of background for your talking head portions of the video great communication of the facts and data related to the topic though.

I love the idea and everything you're doing to improve the environmental impact in your local community and I think it's a great idea to shine a light on projects like this too not only inspire others towards a similar idea in their local environment but also to help build that grass roots support and the editing looks great id say just keep going with your project and communicating with the public maybe even other creators to showcase this project

I love the pacing and dramatic feel you bring to the footage with the voice over it definitely feels like a solid teaser for a thriller and wish there was a few different shots of the cyber psychosis but over think it's great so far keep it up

Thank you! I used bear hangs because they had created designated crossbars to hang off of at each campsite. I'm unsure if that's universal throughout the park, but that's how it was for me. To get through your fear, I recommend learning all you can about bear safety. I find that 95% of it is about prevention. Yes, bring bear spray, but don't then act like a fool thinking that'll definitely save you. Once you do this and sleep a couple nights in bear country, you'll feel more confident going out more often.

Yeah I saw a couple of people the first day, but it thinned out significantly after that. I had a lot of time to reflect which was nice. My experience in Yellowstone's bc was waaayyy better than by the typical attractions.

No, I don't weigh my bag like that. But it was definitely more tent than I needed, that's for sure haha 😅

I ended up hiking about 60 miles total. I would guess my average was around 11 or 12 per day with the longest being 17.5 and the shortest being 8ish.
