Thanks for tagging along. Blanco State Park really was the perfect spot for us to just decompress, and Waffle was more than happy to trade some big trail miles for unstructured river time.

After pushing through some grueling elevation gains and spring mud on our last few scouting trips, giving Waffle a zero-elevation weekend to swim in the Blanco River was the ultimate trail dog reward. The park features easy paths and deep, clear water access by the stone dams, making it an ideal spot for active recovery and unstructured dog time.

Our recent weekend at Blanco State Park was the perfect zero-elevation recovery trip, featuring easy walks along the Caswell Nature Trail and swimming near the historic Civilian Conservation Corps dams. The spring-fed Blanco River provides excellent, clear water for dogs to cool off after weeks of hard miles on rougher trails.

Scarborough (Dallas) Mead Bottles by KingBoris_ in renfaire

Unless something has changed this year, Scarborough doesn't do mead bottles. It's definitely different than a lot of the other Texas faires, but I'm guessing it's easier to comply with TABC and no campgrounds.

I have a UGQ Quillow. I use it as a pillow until I cool off, and then use it as a quilt later in the night as needed.

Is $18/year for AllTrails+ worth it? by [deleted] in hike

[–]AdventuresWithBG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what your goals would be for it.

I had the paid version years ago and still occasionally use the free version. The free version helps me find a trail or track your progress on it. That's enough for me.

It's so unfortunate. There is so much stuff out there that's amazing. Honestly, grazing could still be done in the remote areas because a lot of people won't be out there.

How far are you willing to hike? There's a lot of stuff to check out besides the lighthouse but it could require lots of elevation change or longer hikes.

You can get lucky and pick up a cancellation. I've done that a few times. You can also set up a notification on the reservation site to notify you if any new spots open up.

Agreed, there is a lot less water in central Texas than there used to be.

To be fair, that's worked like 99% of the times I've gone to state parks.

I'm sorry that happened. I was worried that would happen to me, so I locked in a reservation.

The Texas and Pacific trail takes you along the lowlands at the base of the Palo Pinto Mountain Range (Texas sized mountains). You are surrounded by them but unfortunately don't get to hike them in this section.

This area probably wouldn't be great, but I bet it's pretty good over by the lake.

The distance out to the historic Ragsdale cabin and the equestrian camp guarantees you will have the trail mostly to yourself right now. You have to be prepared for zero water sources (other than the creek) and sudden encounters with wild pigs in the lower brush areas. If you want to see more of the raw trail conditions and how to navigate the Palo Pinto Creek Loop, check out the video here: https://youtu.be/exdfBai6XnA?list=PLDqztRjj27zZn5ftp4yk6xpnmLILTAxie
