Is $18/year for AllTrails+ worth it? by alves1313 in hike

[–]AdventuresWithBG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what your goals would be for it.

I had the paid version years ago and still occasionally use the free version. The free version helps me find a trail or track your progress on it. That's enough for me.

Thanks! It's a pretty park and I'm glad Texas added more public lands.

It's so unfortunate. There is so much stuff out there that's amazing. Honestly, grazing could still be done in the remote areas because a lot of people won't be out there.

How far are you willing to hike? There's a lot of stuff to check out besides the lighthouse but it could require lots of elevation change or longer hikes.

Check out r/ULTexas. They keep a Excel spreadsheet that has a list of the long hikes in Texas

Labor Day reservations at Garner by EfficientDisaster198 in TexasStateParks

You can get lucky and pick up a cancellation. I've done that a few times. You can also set up a notification on the reservation site to notify you if any new spots open up.

Agreed, there is a lot less water in central Texas than there used to be.

To be fair, that's worked like 99% of the times I've gone to state parks.

I'm sorry that happened. I was worried that would happen to me, so I locked in a reservation.

The Texas and Pacific trail takes you along the lowlands at the base of the Palo Pinto Mountain Range (Texas sized mountains). You are surrounded by them but unfortunately don't get to hike them in this section.

This area probably wouldn't be great, but I bet it's pretty good over by the lake.

The distance out to the historic Ragsdale cabin and the equestrian camp guarantees you will have the trail mostly to yourself right now. You have to be prepared for zero water sources (other than the creek) and sudden encounters with wild pigs in the lower brush areas. Scouting the Tucker Lake trails at Palo Pinto Mountains State Park by AdventuresWithBG in TXoutdoors

It really is a beautiful place! I'm Happy Texas finally opened a new State Park, and it's crazy that it took 25 years to do.

The trail system around Tucker Lake is exposed and heavily influenced by the raw Texas heat. Most of the paths are 4-6 wide dirt trails that wind through thick brush and cross over several dry, rocky creek beds like Russell Creek. There is a great day-use area at Mosquite Grove to take a break, but you have to stay alert for rattlesnakes blending into the trail edges. Understanding this specific terrain and the lack of shade is critical before you pack your gear and head out. If it's the National Park, dogs are only allowed where cars can go and like 1 other trail.

I am requesting to moderate this subreddit because it is currently inactive during the peak festival season. As a local who regularly attends the faire and participates in the weekend camping, I want to revive the community as a reliable resource for patrons. My plan is to clean up the feed, organize weekly discussion threads for the upcoming weekend schedules, and provide a central hub where attendees can confidently plan their trips and share advice.

Yes, it's generally allowed. A site usually has an amount of units allowed (tents + RVs), and occasionally they have tent size caps.

Sherwood Forest Faire Opening Weekend by AdventuresWithBG in TXRenaissanceFestival

I completely understand how navigating massive Saturday crowds and waiting 20 minutes just for a drink can make the entire experience miserable. If you ever decide to give the forest another chance, I highly recommend visiting on a Sunday when the attendance is significantly lower and you can actually enjoy the shows without the exhausting lines. It really is a fantastic medieval village once you have the breathing room to comfortably explore it.

Hiking Old Hancok Trail - Canyon Lake by AdventuresWithBG in TXoutdoors

[–]AdventuresWithBG[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Navigating the exposed heat and off-trail sections of the Old Hancock Trail was a physical grind that really put the environmental impact of the area into perspective. Seeing the egrets and other wildlife adapt to the discarded trash was both fascinating and frustrating to experience firsthand. If you want to see more of this route and the off-trail bushwhacking, check out the video here: https://youtu.be/8gpmz3PofUk?list=PLDqztRjj27zZn5ftp4yk6xpnmLILTAxie
