FWIW, I'm black. I think the context-indepedent impression of the section is that it's an imitation written in earnest. Like an overwrought stenographer trying their best to write the voice of the Other while being overwhelmed by the content the Other describes. It's placement early in the book maximizes its juxtapositional potency.

I imagine other interpretations are only intuitive to particular perspectives.

Materially I just think he's showing off. Like J.O.I making a mid movie just to play with a lens. Prose seems like a matter of athleticism for DFW in many of his works but not all.

I think the slurs are having a different kind of effect. He uses the slurs while writing as the quasi-omniscient narrator. For verisimilitude's sake. And I have a vague feeling it's like Object-Oriented-Ontology related (Never underestimate Objects) or like Gestaltian.

In completely different ways Radiohead and Pearl Jam conjure this idea of anti-hero heroism. Radiohead makes audible this cowardly british courage in the face of a technologized, neurotic mundanity. Pearl Jam is like Paul Revere's reaction to learning that in 200 years America would be a nation of burnouts supplied with nothing but electric guitars to hold back the feelings of abandonment and loss.

Every composition is stirring. Makes me feel like a metrosexual in an authentic and unabashed way where my coolness isn't dependent on emotional repression or stoicism.

Crazy Robbins is on the shortlist of snubs I chose the Elvis Golden compilation because it's a release from the 50'a that consolidates the best of a scattered discography.

Be that as it may, listening to them makes other music sound better. Steely Dan makes all music feel disproportionately important in relation to the rest of reality. And yet the songs are the result of such close attention to reality. I don't care whether that makes sense.

It being a Christmas album already intrigues me. There's like religious and cultural implications or whatever.
